I had a work lunch here recently and it was lovely. We sat upstairs on the alfresco balcony which overlooks Macquarie Street. The food was delicious! I wanted to sit there for hours... but unfortunately had to go back to work :(

Very disappointing, my steak was small, overcooked and fatty – everyone’s was the same. Completely unacceptable for $25 - you could do better at any CBD pub. The waiter that collected our plates mumbled about a “timing issue”. The party next to us complained as well. Nice spot. Shame about the food.

We had lunch at the Mint a few weeks ago, really enjoyed it. The place was busy for a cold winters day, but we were still served quickly. My friend and I both loved the souffle.

I had the angel hair pasta with prawns and rocket. This is a classic combination, hard to get wrong. It was dreadful. There were no prawns, just tiny shavings of tasteless frozen (?) prawn (amounting to perhaps half a prawn in total). The pasta was undressed and tasteless. It was mixed with mixed leaf salad greens, not with rocket. The meal did not correspond with the description, it was godawful. I was given a knife, and had to ask for a spoon, to eat the pasta - the staff appeared surprised at my request!

The balcony setting was quite nice but the fact that there was no table near us by about 10 metres gave the place a strange feel. Staff were attentive but the quality of the food was lacking. My steak was small, overcooked (well done instead of rare) and had a lot of fat. The portion of green beans we received was so small it was ridiculous, served on a tiny saucer. I wouldn't recommend this place, go the the Hyde Park Barracks cafe down the road for a much better experience.

Amazing summery crab and chilli fettucine. Fantastic place for a work lunch on a breezy sunny day if you can get a table on the balcony. Slightly on the expensive side but you get the service and quality that you pay for.

Just had Xmas lunch at the Mint Cafe. The service was extremely good and the location good for a city venue. Unfortunately the food is not value for money. There were 11 people at the lunch and I had the slow cooked duck. I actually didn't know if it was duck as it was so dry and tough, and by the time you got it off the tiniest piece of leg I probably had 4 tiny mouthfuls - so very disappointed.
Others in the group also expressed there disappointment at the quality of the food.
There seemed to be a lot of red cabbage, bread, but nothing of the food you was actually ordering - so sorry not good value for money

Small menu, but good selection. Had the Pappadelle Pasta with Chorizo, Tomatoes and Olives. Generous serving. Mains run around $20. Outside dining overlooks Macquarie Street or Barracks next door. Service very attentive. All round good meal. Quiet spot for lunch in the city.

I don't see how the following user comments relate to the Sydney Mint Cafe. Firstly, the hours are 9 to 5 therefore no dinner is served and the second one talks about degustation menu - not there and cocktail menu - not there either. I think it is a great spot, a real hidden treasure and I have lunch there about five times a year.

1st time diner for 4 people on 20 May 2005 for dinner. Ordered Meze Large for Entree (very good with many dips and pieces to try), then Pumkin salad with spinach leaves (very tasty), Ravioli (very tasty), chick pea/pumkin cous cous dish (very nice). All very tasty meals. Mint Tea (with honey added, was very nice) and Rosepetal custart (very good). Came to $25 each sharing with 4 people. Plenty to eat. Service was very friendly. Only complaint would be the seating. Very low and can easily get a sore back sitting so low and at very small tables. Apart from that would definately come back again and have the mixed meze with possibly a lamb skewer dishes and the rosepetal custard again.
