Encouraged by reviews on this site, my wife and I had dinner here last Saturday night. It was a cold night and the place was nicely warm, but fairly basic. My wife had a rabbit dish that she thought was flavoursome but it had a dry meat texture, in effect a rabbit stew out of a stockpot. I am hard pressed to remember what I had, writing a week later, I think it was a veal dish but as you may have gathered, it was not memorable.
I do recall that the rosti it came with was tasteless. Both dishes seemed like they were cooked up in a large quantity and simply ladled onto the plate. In fact I thought the whole experience rather B+. We decided not to stay for dessert because we felt we might just be given more mass production stuff. We won't be back.
Service was great and the owners were simply lovely. The food tastes authentic and its value for money. Location not too far from the main drag. Check out the Gluhwein (mulled wine) especially in the cold season.
This restaurant is one of my all time favourites - warm, friendly service matched by incredible food, especially the desserts! The ambience is cosy and homely. Have been going here for 16 years and have always been delighted to recommend this one! Bravo!
This is a must to visit when holidaying (or living) in the Blue Mountains. Winter time, the fondue is a must. It really is divine as well as their rosti! Enjoy! I didn't like all their dictatorial signs upon entrance, such as cash only, No birthday cakes etc etc apart from that, enjoyable.
I've been here a few times and it never disappoints. The Raclette is delicious and great value at $54 for two. The waitress also offered more bread and potatoes if we wanted it. Delicious desserts too, try the Death by Chocolate or the Creme Brulee. Fab, friendly service and yummy food in a cosy, warm, inviting spot. Love it.
Wow, what a great find in the mountains! Our family gathering of 8 made an impromptu visit here for dinner, on the tail end of a celebration weekend away for a special family occasion. Wish we had headed here sooner.
The food was excellent, something different but very tasty and well presented. However, the real distinguishing factor is the service. The male and female waiters serviced the tables without any problems, were very friendly, quick and attentive.
When I mentioned to the female waitress the special family occasion, next thing she brought out a dessert with a congratulations written in chocolate on the plate and with sparklers - it was such an unexpected and lovely surprise.
Walking in and out was like entering a magical hut in a forest, the cottage and the gardens are so beautifully maintained. The entire experience was such a good one, after having endured a very dodgy and disappointing family dinner the evening before. This is a gem in the mountains.
Looking for something a tiny bit different? A little place to vanish into another world of a slightly Swiss feel? Then don't look here! The Swiss Cottage is simply magical to visit and a highlight to any Blue Mountains trip. Books very much recommended, but not essential in off peak times, off street parking and on street parking in a side road with great visibility.
This darling little venture started with a family business and not surprising in that it remains the same way today. One mild surprise is that half of the restaurant was mum's bedroom (not my mum, of course) until popularity demanded that the seating area be expanded. They can be a little slow when busy, but I've never felt forgotten in a dozen visits.
The staff are pleasent like you'd expect in a family business, and the meals are simply prepared, but very flavoursome. My favourite starter is the chicken volavont, followed by the peppercorn steak (or the cheese fondu), followed by delicious chocolate deserts, including a chocolate fondu with strawberrys, cheese or bread, the choice is yours and you dip and enjoy it at your table. Take your mum, take your lady, take a small group, but just go and experience as it's too good to ignore.
Note ye well: Cash Only. No EFT or credit cards. And take your own wines if that's what you want, as the house selections are below par. Now go and enjoy!
Lovely atmosphere, tasty food and wine but servings are small. I had Coq au vin and only got 2 drum sticks with tiny dish of vegies $26! (about $3 to before expenses?). Had to order a potato rosti to supplement ($6, served in a cold dish). Left hungry, time didn't allow for the $14 desserts, but they did look good!
We went to the Swiss Cottage and really enjoyed the food, we had the raclette for 2 which was not only very nice but an experience in itself. The service was very good, efficient, and friendly. As we were enjoying our meal even the chef came and checked to see how our meals were, which was a nice touch. The only 2 criticisms we have are that you can't just go there for dessert as they say they are not a patisserie they are a restaurant. And a restaurant that only accepts cash, which was the other criticism. Overall we were happy Thanks !!!!
We went to this restaurant for a birthday celebration. We brought our own wine (not a cheap bottle) but were only offered mediocre pub style wine glasses. The food was poorly presented.
The veal came in a sort of grey sauce and a slice of rosti and was quite chewy. There was no other attempt at garnish. The desserts in contrast were excellent and well presented. We nearly didn't order any. Service 9, Main 5, dessert 9.
