Located opposite Sydney’s beautiful Bronte Beach, the design of the restaurant makes it perfect for any time of the year and any weather - light and breezy on a sunny day; cosy, warm and intimate on a cool winter's night.
Indoor and outdoor seating is available, with the outdoor tables under heaters. Most tables afford a view across the beach, but all enjoy a pleasant outlook towards Bronte Park.
We look forward to seeing you soon in Bronte.

Went there for brunch for son's birthday, very disappointed in the food, eggs benedict were cold, baked beans hard and we were refused our birthday cake after brunch. Bought take away coffee and went to Bronte park which was so much quieter (did I mention the 3 year old who screamed and screamed, and the buses constantly pulling up outside). I noticed another table were told of specials but not us. Too many other cafes to bother returning.

There was a time some years back when this place set the standard for dining down on Bronte beach but after my recent visit I can only view it as one of many on the strip. There was no 'wow' factor in the lunches a group of us ordered. Service was fine, the ambience as I remembered it, coffees were good with prices a tad on the high side.

Swell is a well established restaurant on the strip at Bronte Beach. Idyllic in setting, Swell trades off its position. The food is great, but not so the prices - rather on the exy side.
We chose the snapper special which was delicious but was priced at $32 for one piece of fish. The sides of beans and salad were each priced at $12 for a standard sized dish...frankly OTT. We would not rush back, based on the swollen prices, but would return happily based on the swell food and service.
Response from Management:
Thanks for the great review Greg. Just a couple of corrections: side dishes are $8 and $9, and enough to be shared between 2. They've never been $12! Also, the $32 snapper is a complete dish, with three grilled Crystal Bay prawns (fresh!) and a tomato and caper ragout and olive tapenade. For our quality of fresh seafood (daily fresh), that price is very reasonable.

Can't comment on the food, we were so disgusted by the rudeness of the waiter that we voted with our feet and instead went next door to one of their competitors.
Response from Management:
Apologies. Please don't judge our restaurant by one employee, who is probably no longer here if he was that rude! Hope you enjoyed your meal next door but we hope you'll come back and try Swell soon as we are the most highly regarded cafe by day, restaurant by night, catering to the most discerning diners on the strip.

Nice! This place is great and consistent. I had the kingfish which was certainly very good but wish I had my usual angel hair pasta with Alaskan crab, it is just wonderful. I also tried the duck consomme with duck dumplings. It wasn't quite warm enough but the dumplings were a stand out. The dish of the day, however, was their gnocchi, wow. I could have eaten the whole lot as well as my own entree.
The only downfall is the Bronte cafes being across the road from the bus interchange, however, that's a small price to pay. One of our table had a problem with one of the dishes. It was taken seriously and they apologised without argument. They came back and reported they didn't believe there was a problem, however, the item was taken off the bill.
The service is always great. Very casual and friendly but quick, professional and pleasant.

The food was good enough for the price, but... It was a cold, wet and windy day and they kept opening the door "to let some fresh air in 'cos the staff was falling asleep". We were sat right next to front door and was not impressed with the blast of cold wet wind or their poor reasoning behind their action. I would've been much happier for them to turn down the heating, but ended up putting my rain jacket back on to keep warm.
On a sunny day that wouldn't have come up, but for me, the good food isn't worth returning for due to that single incident. Not excusable.
Response from Management:
Apologies Windingo. The ventilation problem has been addressed.

Had a beautiful breakfast on a quiet weekday. Great service. Lovely ambience. Coffee was ok. A killer bircher muesli and a fairly good fruit salad + yoghurt.

We recently ate there on a Saturday afternoon. Obviously you can see the water in places and there is a breeze, still, we felt like an impost on the wait staff and that gives for very average ambience. Very average service and food. We picked two things on the menu we had not seen or had before. The food served did not go together at all and I wanted to tell the waitress what we thought of it, as we had left most of it on the plate, but we were not even asked. Very expensive for such an average experience. Would definitely not go back.
Response from Management:
Apologies. The waitstaff who served you should have been more attentive to your needs.

Great location and engaging menu. The service was excellent but the food was a little bland although nicely presented. Long wait for entree but they offered these at no charge without being asked so that's fair enough. Would try the other restaurants in the strip before going back.
Response from Management:
Try our new menu from our current 2012 chef. Better than ever!

We enjoyed a post City to Surf lunch here today, and could not have picked a better place!
The view of Bronte beach is to die for, and food and service to match today. My friends ordered a salmon fish cake, which is a single but it's pretty big and they really enjoyed it. I had the kingfish with apples. Yum! For dessert we shared the flourless chocolate cake and berry crumble between 3 of us. Flourless cake was a hi, so yummy and chocolately but beautiful texture, despite the big chocolate hit, it was still really light.
Crumble was disappointing though, too much berry, not enough crumble, I think this was due to the cup they serve it in. It would be better if they served the crumble in a lower but wider bowl, to allow for more crumble.
Seems like there are quite a few nice restaurants on this strip, but I look forward to returning to Swell! I would love to try something from the Japanese side of the restaurant next time.
