Great japanese food, the sashimi is always spot on and fresh and the sushi is very well prepared and served. This place is a real hidden gem, good value for money and great service. You have to sometimes wait a while for your sushi (party platters), however, when it comes out you can tell it was just rolled so you are waiting for a reason.
I have been here on many occasions and am never disappointed. The beef tataki is the best I've ever tried and the chasoba salad is really nice and fresh. The service is hit and miss sometimes and when it gets busy its hard to flag someone down. Definitely recommend bookings after 7:00 pm.
Having been to japan recently I can only say this restaurant is very lucky it's in
Sydney and maybe in an area where people don't really know how good Japanese food can be. Very disappointing, sashimi way below standard as far as freshness and quality goes. Tempura prawns, oily, and not fresh. Won't be back. Love to know why it has such a good rating?
Just returned from my second visit. The food is definitely above average and reasonably priced. It's such a terrible shame the service lets down such good food. None of the wait staff seem like they have any experience. While friendly enough, they started by clearing our entree plates before we were done, and then left our dirty main plates on the table even after they brought out our dessert - I even asked them to clear the table and they took just one set of dishes. None took the initiative to ask us if we needed anything - we had to ask for everything.
At times it didn't even seem the wait staff were very busy - they seemed to have enough staff to provide better service than they did. After a while of having to ask for things it started to seem like an inconvenience to them. If they improved their service this place would be so much better.
I have been there twice in 2 weeks. Good place to go early if you have a baby. Lots of high chairs. They do get packed quite early and I think its best you book if you go later than 6.30 pm. The food is fresh and delicious. So much to choose. Service can be hit and miss but generally pretty good. I believe there are two sections for dining, I was quite surprised how large it was. BYO or licenced. Easy parking on Parramatta Road. I will be back. Price reasonable but not cheap.
After reading such positive reviews on this site, we booked a table for dinner last night and have to say we were pretty satisfied with our first visit. The service was really attentive and very friendly, and definitely not slow. Though I was a little annoyed that they seated us (being a couple) in the larger room beside two large noisy tables swarming with toddlers and babies when there were tables available in the smaller and more intimate (and much quieter!) front room.
We ordered a variety of plates to share, starting with an entree of green tea noodles with the most delicious home made soy dressing. The entree of Takoyaki (battered dumplings of diced octopus) was beautiful, and the vegetable tempura was a generous serve, all with very fresh ingredients. Chicken teriyaki for main was also delicious. I was surprised they left the chicken pieces with skin on, as I'd never seen this in any other Japanese restauarant, but it certainly didn't disappoint, though it might for the calorie conscious.
The only disappointment was the Ponzu Yaki Beef (grilled beef with lemon dipping sauce). The beef strips were rather thick and chewy, and I wasn't a big fan of the lemon flavours. Five dishes all amounting to $66 (incl. corkage) is great value for money.
The restarant has been there since 1987 and the dining room certainly looks tired. It could do with a bit of a reno, and some tea candles on the tables to lift the dim ambience. We will definitely be back to try their sushi and sashimi.
"We are slow but friendly??". On busy friday night, four of us went there. I didn't know how hard to get the seat without booking. We almost waited for 30 mins. Anyway, after meal I found that they are not slow but friendly. The food is definitely over average.
Despite waiting more than 15 minutes to get glasses for our wine, we were first asked for our order (and asked for the glasses) and from then on it was far from slow but was always friendly!
The freshly made soft shell crab sushi rolls were fantastic as was the sashimi/sushi plate. As always the tuna was the finest fish and literally melted in the mouth, however, all were fantastic. All our dishes were served with quick timing, which works well with a Japanese menu.
The Chicken Teryaki Don is one of the best Teryaki's I've had. Marinated meat... not just a sauce! With corkage, spectacularly great value for money at $58 for 4 fab dishes! Great value for money! This is the best value Japanese restaurant and it would stand up against any similar restaurant, every day of the week. We'll definitely be back regularly!
After reading some of the reviews on here, I booked for one tonight and went along. Yes, the service was patchy, but the place was packed and there were people streaming through the door the whole time I was there, which is a really good sign. I was in no hurry, so the lack of attention didn't faze me.
I ordered four pieces of nigiri (two each of tuna and eel), a standard portion of sashimi, a sushi deluxe and a miso soup. I have to say all of the dishes/items were excellent, and even with 2 sapporos the total bill was $70. I was absolutely stuffed. The quality of the fish was almost as good as Sushi E (see my review on this site) and the bill was 40% cheaper.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone - a hidden gem, and I'll definitely return. Top notch.
We've been going here for years and we love it every time. As they advertise clearly, the service can be a bit slow but considering that they are packed most nights they do a wonderful job - we've never had anything to complain about. The beef tataki and the seaweed delight are both amazing! Love it here, and if they keep it up, we'll be returning for years to come.
