I came for a birthday dinner with a group of 25 people and the service was excellent! We had requested a private room so we wouldn't distract other customers and it was much better then I had initially expected. Food if exceptionally good and came out quite promptly, but quite pricey. Would come back another time !

I found the food here disappointing, considering it's obviously a successful chain with many restaurants worldwide. Sashimi was good, but not the freshest I've had. The hot dishes came out luke warm and the hand rolls were cold.

On the plus side, the items were well priced, the setting was great and service was friendly. Still, there are better sushi places in the city so I probably wouldn't be coming back.

I frequent this restaurant very often, not because I love it, but just because it is the only mid-priced restaurant around the area that's open in the evening. The staff, whilst not rude, are not exactly class either. They seem to serve food in the wrong order, every time. It somewhat bothers me that they are not Japanese either. But I guess you don't always have to be of a certain ethnicity to work in certain cuisine.

Food quality is average. But I did find it ridiculous when I had asked for some avocado with my Salmon-don and the waitress had to check with the chef. (?) The reply came back that they could not give me avocado because it was not part of the recipe. I asked what about just avocado on the side, they refused to give it to me. Avocado, mind you!

Also, have had to pay extra for Tonkatsu sauce. I wouldn't go if you wanted a nice dinner, but it suffices for a quick bite.

I did enjoy the food the first time I went. The menu looks stunning with fantastic pictures, but the quality of the food is a real hit and miss. The place is always busy, so service is slow and poor, they get orders mixed up. It really is more of a quick lunch thing.

Great food. Go once a month with a mate, and feast on basically one of the whole menu, soft shell crab is always delicious, as is everything else. Sashimi very fresh, ambience good for what the place is, you aren't expecting a quiet sit down meal here and the place is always full. Staff very accommodating, can't believe the neg. reviews below! Love the place.

Very poor service. My hot dish took around 40 minutes. The Yaki Udon was really poor, wet sloppy and tasteless. I won't be back.

With all due respect to the (negative) reviews below, I honestly cannot see how some one could rate this restaurant so lowly. I work across the street in Chifley and have been grabbing take-away for dinner from there most nights a week since December last year. The food has always been superb, with great service, and an attractive indoor setting.

Reading some of the reviews below, I was very surprised to hear that one member had unfortunately been "shouted at" by management, who have always been extremely polite and very accommodating in my experience. In fact, I went to Sushi Tei for dinner with my girlfriend last Friday and was initially seated in the sushi bar area as no tables were free.

A few minutes later, the waitress came up to me and requested if we could move to a table, as 3 other guests had arrived and if we moved, then 2 seats would have been vacated for them along with one which was already free. This was fine for us, as we preferred a table - but I could only have imagined how many up-tight customers would have approached this situation, and most probably would have kicked up a fuss over something as trivial as informal table seating.

At this point, the manager came out, humbly apologised, and gave us ice cream on the house which was very generous, along with a coupon for free dessert the next time we went as well. A far cry from the senior staff below who yelled at the customer !

All in all, a fantastic restaurant and one I'd recommend to anyone - if you do end up going, make sure you try the coral roll, wagyu steak, and chicken katsu-don!

Sushi Tei is a quick non fuss but value for money food outlet in HK and S'pore. However, the branch in Sydney is seriously bad. I gave it benefit of doubt twice and am not returning.

The sashimi I had were not fresh, I had wanted the premium tuna sushi on its menu but was told they did not have it on a friday night (6.30pm). I wanted to try the seafood paper hotpot and was told as well they didn't have it. Instead, I had to settle for salmon and scallop. The dish came out uncooked, which would have been fine if the soup had been hot to begin with (it was barely lukewarm). By the time the flame gone out, my soup did not even simmer and my mushroom and carrot remained halfcooked.

I tried the aburiscallop (flamed torched) sushi and it was served cold and "unflamed". I had to ask the waitress over and repeated my request that a torched scallop should at least be brown on the top side and warm to touch as any decent Jap restaurant would serve it. The Asian but non Japanese waitress didn't quite understand and after I sent it back, they gave me a new one which looked midly scorched but still Cold.

Generally, this place is a major disappointment, only good for people who has never tried authentic sushi and meals, or for someone who basically just want to have food and not caring what or how it was served.

The worst service in the world ! Need I say any more? if you imagine that Manuel from Fawlty Towers had gone to Japan to teach hospitality (without learning Japanese first) then the graduates from Manuels school came to Australia to work then you would have some idea of the service you'll be in for at Sushi Tei. Awful. I share the views of previous reviewers of this restaurant.
