Having returned from Japan not long ago, this place doesn't deserve to be called a Japanese restaurant. The food was bland and lifeless, the service was quite slow
wouldn't bother going back.

Hot food are mediocre and small and as the previous reviewer stated it can take a long time for them to bring it out. Service is poor and unattentive. Decor, however, is nice, the only plus for this place. I've been told that this is a chain originating from Singapore or Indonesia. Unsure if the cooks are Japanese but most of the wait staff are Indonesian. It just feels like McDonalds trying to do japanese and failing.

I work across the road and used to go to Sushi Tei almost everyday for lunch or dinner. Overall the food isn't bad, ambience is peaceful albeit the sterile smell of wet towels that reminds me of Singapore. The service, however, leaves much to be desired, the waitresses aren’t particularly bright and always gets orders wrong, and they seem to deliberately show anger if you do not tip them enough. However, one incident happened that prompted me to write this review and to never go back to this circus again.
I was at dinner with a friend and ordered fried rice and teriyaki chicken as a side dish. My rice came out first and after 20 minutes the chicken wasn't ready. I asked the waitress to check my order to which she replied that because it was "hot food" it takes longer, expect to wait another "2-3" minutes. 10 minutes gone past and about 30 minutes after my rice came out (which was already long finished), the chicken arrived.
I asked for waitress to cancel this chicken as it was meant as a side dish for my rice, and I also suspect that they actually forgot my order and made some lame excuse for the lateness. Five minutes later, the senior staff of the restaurant proceeded to shout at me in front of everyone. He said that "this isn't MacDonalds, hot food takes time" and that if I wanted the chicken and rice together I should have told the waitress (to which I replied most Asian side dishes are accompanied by rice if he hasn’t caught on).
As I walked out of the restaurant in disgust, he shouted behind me "This isn't MacDonald!" I cannot believe that a mid-level Japanese restaurant that caters for city white collar workers would react to the cancellation of a dish with such arrogance and pigheadedness, it was their fault after all. So I urge all readers to give this restaurant a miss.

I've been to Sushi Tei twice now. Was slightly disappointed the first time, but thought I'd give it another crack as I live just down the road. The ambience of the restaurant is nice, the bar is particularly roomy, and the ledge underneath for your feet is also a nice touch. There's also partitions between the conventional tables.
The menu is enormous in dimensions, and it certainly looked appetising. Unfortunately, from here on in I was left disappointed. Both times my partner had to wait for her food (approx 15 minutes after mine was delivered).
During my two visits I've tried the gyoza (bordered on poor, Condor's are so much better), wagyu (overcooked and hence extremely tough), crab rolls (not fresh), katsu curry (mediocre compared to most Japanese restaurants), and the pork-based ramen, which has to be the worst ramen I've had unfortunately. The noodles were swollen from being over cooked, and broke up when lifted with chopsticks. The deep fried squid was popular with my friends, and its a great appetiser when downing an Asahi.

We went there on a Sunday night for dinner. There were 10 of us and we decided to try out most of the dishes by sharing. The dishes were beautifully presented but the portions were too small. The price was reasonable considering the number of dishes that were ordered. Will probably go back there again. Tip: there are no napkins or serviettes at this restaurant, only the little wrapped wet tissues that they charge you for when used.

I went here during a busy lunchtime without a booking and was seated at the conveyor belt, which was fine with us. However, hardly any food came out on the belt and the same plates kept coming around.
The waitress who took our order was polite, however, it was difficult to understand her. Two of the 5 dishes we ordered were not available and she didn't offer any suggestions. We ordered the standard Japanese meal - tofu, sashimi, the dragon roll and a rice dish. The food was pretty standard however, the sashimi was fresh.
We were presented with the bill without asking for it and at that stage, we had not even received our dragon roll. When I pointed this out to the waitress, she asked if we wanted to cancel the order. We were still pretty hungary and asked her how long it would take as we were on our lunch break. She queried the sushi chef who barely looked at her and shrugged his shoulders. She then made up a time of 30 minutes. Thirty minutes to wait for sushi roll is ridiculous. We were annoyed and cancelled the order.
Overall, not a good experience and $35 later, we were still hungary. We will not be coming back.

The food here is exceptionally fresh (particularly the sashimi) and well cooked. One of the best Japanese restaurants in Sydney.
It's incredible though that people seem to get so extraordinarily upset over the fact that they charge for the wet towels (see the other posts where one person calls it a "low act"). The cost per wet towel is 20 cents. It is not a large sum by any means, although it will provide you with added amusement to try and see whether any other people in the restaurant (or on your table) will take exception to having to pay a whole 20 cent fee.
To my mind, the main reason to choose a restaurant is the quality of food. In a Japanese restaurant, it is the freshness (particularly of the sashimi). This restaurant passes with flying colours.

Sushi Tei is a chain of japanese restaurants run by chinese. Restaurant has good ambience and the food is ok average. Sort of Mcdonalds production line formula.
We were quite happy until we received the bill and was charged for wet towels.
That is terrible marketing by the owners. Its not the 60 cents for the wet towels (which we did not even ask for) but the total lack of understanding of human psychology and comprehension. (back to school fellas).
For this low act, we did not give any tips and it has enhanced our chances of not returning to what is already a very average restaurant. Verdict: Ok but nothing to rave about.

Nice food. The service was great. Just a bit annoyed with the fact that we had to pay extra for using their wet towels.
