Great for a quick dinner but we only go here when we want dinner early. I'm not sure I'd invest time waiting for a table past 7 pm, because the lines do get quite long, but before that time, I'm always happy to choose this place. The waitstaff can be a little bit abrupt at times but that seems directly related to how busy they are, which is understandable but not so reasonable when you consider they can predict they'll be very busy most nights of the week.
Everything was average. I am not sure why people are prepared to queue up and dine at this place. Food was ok, I didn't really like their Teriyaki Chicken because it wasn't very flavourful and saucy. Sushi was average. Sashimi was fresh though and their Vanilla Ice Cream with Green Tea Syrup was nice.
Service was very rushed (understandable as they're always busy) and was not attentive. Not the best value in town either. They did not turn on the Air Con during my visit on a very warm autumn evening.
Me and my friends always try the indian around and we've always seen a huge line outside this place so decided to try it out. It was average japanese food. Nothing head over heels. Just location and name. But it was still nice and service was gud.
I have been here about a hundred times. I love it. It is for quick in and out meals, not dates or big groups. Portions are huge. The meats (teriyaki and katsu) are great and I also love the giant Kaiso salad and agedashi tofu. The udon is yum. The tempura generous and crispy. Sushi and sashimi is good but if you eat top notch sushi regularly, you'll notice the fish is not A grade. It's not awful either, I have seen some nasty cheap salmon at other places over the years but I would just call it good rather than excellent or great.
Excellent value for money. Go early to avoid crowds or come for lunch during the week, otherwise, just prepared to wait. Be prepared to make yourself known to the staff if you think you've been forgotten. Staff are always harried but generally polite and efficient. Head honcho can be a bit brash but he's always been nice to me and my friends who are local and regulars.
Previously a favourite local restaurant, our guest friends and we were savagely let down by senior staff on our last visit. On our last visit the senior staff took the wrong order of our friends’. I help my friends to order combination Sashimi Tempura, but we ended up got Sushi Tempura and definitely we were right because we told the senior staff 3 times.
However, he kept mentioned that we order Sushi Tempura, not Sashimi Tempura instead. There was no attempt to listen to our explanation of what had transpired. Instead we were accused of choosing those orders and if we want to change our orders we need to wait for another half an hour. It was really ridiculous as it was their mistake not ours. The worst part was we got no apology at all as a customer. A sad end to a previously good run with this place.
Previously a favourite local restaurant, we were savagely let down by the senior staff and service staff on our last visit. Always a rushed and impersonal experience on the service front, in the past we've always forgiven this popular restaurant for its lack of warmth towards its customers on account of its reliably decent, tasty and inexpensive menu.
However, on our last visit the staff were so rushed they took our cash from the table and then accused us of not paying the bill when (fifteen minutes later) we dared to ask for our change! There was no attempt to listen to our explanation of what had transpired. Instead we were accused of not paying and it took a count of the till and an apparent 'viewing of the video footage' before the matter was resolved and we were given our change. Who knows what went wrong at their end, but them misplacing our cash and then making a scene with us in front of the other customers was very unpleasant.
The worst part was we got no apology once they realised their error and the senior staff was too frightened to face us, instead sending a junior out from the safety of the kitchen to bravely hand us our change! A sad end to a previously good run with this place. We will not be back.
Portions are large and relatively cheap compared to other Japanese restaurants out there. The food was also nice. Service not that good, and parking is quite inconvenient. You can't book, which is a big hassle. Order their teriyaki chicken and sashimi!
Waited there over almost 1 hour in the stairway and I wondered why another group had gotten a table within 5 minutes. The waiter just walked away from me when I asked about this! I felt ignored the whole time I was there.
You can't book a table by the way.
I was not the only one to be ignored, others trying to grab the waiters attention had minimal luck too.
Ambience, There is a downstairs and upstairs, but both are tiny and almost claustrophobic, the upstairs area there are stools and small bar tables but the ambience is ruined for those actually eating upstairs when all those tables are filled and there is no room to move.
I'm never coming back, the worse experiences I have ever encountered.
I used to be one of the "cheapo" frequently visit this place for their Sushi and Teriyaki. However, food is not as fresh as before and the service, what service? Their service wasn't good before but now, it is simply arrogant. I just couldn't believe the way they treated the couple next to us. If I was the receiving end, I would have scream my head off.
I wonder why the couple didn't leave? It is a fact that this place is frequented by "cheapo" who wanted reasonable Japanese food with minimal $$. There is nothing wrong with that. But, if insult comes with the cheap price, then, sayunara.
I went there with my girlfriend on 31/7/09. Very disappointing service, esp for the seating system, even though you are the first one waiting to be seated, you'll end up being the last. Coz the "senior staff" who is in charge for the seating is hopeless. He never knows and doesn't care who comes first. Disappointing!
Food is not bad but the tables are so packed. So you are sitting shoulder by shoulder with someone in the next table. The set dinner is about $33, would be enough for 2 girls.
