The food is fantastic and consistently good. Love the agadashi tofu and tempura. The ice-cream with green teas, corn flakes and beans is so yummy. I agree with the other reviews, horrible service but you cant expect much from a cheap and fast paced restaurant.

Value no-frills Japanese. Free appetizer on arrival. Menu hasn't changed for years- still $35 for a value set dinner that is big enough to fill 2 people (we have normal appetites). Sometimes the sashimi/sushi aint so fresh as they have it all pre-prepared from before you even order it (for efficiency purposes). Really cheap though and huge servings. Tempura is pretty good!

This is one of my fave japanese restaurants, not for the atmosphere or the service but for the great priced set dinner menu as even with our big appetites, we're always stuffed and the quality is great! I will keep going back regardless of the rudeness of the waitresses sometimes and it getting quite busy at times, definitely worth it as the food is delicious and Very well priced!

Just had dinner here. Very disappointed by the service, especially not something you expect from a Japanese restaurant. So rude that we wanted to leave even before the food arrived. It's as if they didn't want our business. Forced us to order before we got a table. And even when the restaurant wasn't full, we won't allowed to take a seat until we ordered. And think this mistreatment was from the senior staff. What a shame! But people who came after us didn't get such substandard treatment.
Worse, the food was nothing like it used to be. Sushi suma used to be good quality and value but now it's not worth wasting your time or money considering how there's plenty of options available. Also with their new renovation you would think they would keep their kitchen clean for all to see. But it was so dirty that I felt sick lookin at it afterwards.

My partner and I come here purely for good food and great value. One of our favourite budget places, considering one set dinner menu feeds up to 2 people and we always end up leaving full and satisfied. Funny enough, have yet to try the al la carte, considering we're always happy with the dinner special.

We showed up on a Wed night, the restaurant wasn't full, but we waited a good 10minutes by the door with waitresses waliking past us and intentionally ignoring us. Eventually someone came over and shouted 'upstairs, upstairs'. We left. I don't think this level of service should be acceptable anywhere.

I really hate reading the whining comments on this site. But particularly for sushi suma. This place has become my regular for sushi in the last 6 months as referred to me by my Japanese friends. [and rightly so]
My main order is the agedashi Tofu, California rolls, Tempura Prawn rolls, miso soup and Sushi deluxe set, so food wise that is all I can comment about. What a delight it is eating this food. Beyond comprehension! As a Gluten intolerant I suffer a whole day with the cramps of the mayonnaise in those rolls because it is so damn addictive.
Yes seating proximity is close, but I don't think the place is set up for confessional conversations or dates, just enjoyment of good food.
...And Yes head staff can be a bit pushy, and some waiters can be dismissive under the multitude of customers they are attending to, but honestly if your main aim in a dining experience is great service, then rationally this place won't fit your 'fine dining' guidelines.
If, however, you are hungry for The Best Japanese, and want to reward your taste buds, take my suggestion *Visit Asap*.

We ordered the Katsu meal and the waiter refused to take our order and insisted we order another miso soup which I didn't want! There is nothing in their menu stating a minimum order. Ridiculous.

Rude. Rude. Rude! Went there last night with my parents and they treated us like we were scum. I don't know how a place like this exists. My father said it was literally the worst dining experience of his life. I hope the owners read this and maybe just maybe they will start thinking of treating their customers with respect. Please do yourself and everyone else a favor and don't come here. Maybe when they start seeing how empty they are they will possibly consider treating customers with respect. Without us you won't have a business and people to treat like crap. I'm shocked that we decide to spend money out for a night to eat and you treat us with such disrespect. Restaurants like this don't deserve customers. I've never written a review about a restaurant before but they were so rude I jumped on here and decided I wanted to warn everyone not to come here. That's how angry I am!

I’ve been coming here for about three years. Throughout this time I have always know what to expect, good fast food, with horrible and usually rude service. We all know the guy who takes your order and at times basically grunts at you. I’ve often been seated and halfway through my meal been asked to pick up all the plates and move up a few tables just to accommodate their seating arrangement.
I’ve have never liked how they treat their customers, including myself, but we have always put up with it because the food was good, comes out fast and is relevantly cheap. However, over the last few months I’ve noticed the place started to empty out and I know why. You would think this would mean they would begin to treat their regulars a little nicer. However, this has only caused them to become ruder and just outright obnoxious.
Last night I watched them move three separate couples in the middle of their meal just because they wanted a row of free tables. I felt bad for the people and you could see by the look on their faces they were not happy either. It actually infuriated one couple in their 50s so much they asked for their bill immediately and walked out with their food uneaten. To make matter worse when they left they decided they wanted us, with an entire table full of food to stand up and take their place.
Now I can understand moving us around before our meal but with a whole table full of food, and watching three very disgruntled couples obviously get agitated you would think they would stop. Now like I said I’m used to this place so know what to expect, but having us pick up our plates and take a table in the middle of two angry couples was one of the most insulting and infuriating things that has ever happened to me in my restaurant life.
However, what makes matters even worse is the fact I’ve started to realise they are systematically taking money off the top of your bill each time you pay in cash. The reason I say this is the last four times we have been there and paid cash we have been short-changed $4-$7. Yes not much but enough to annoy. The first two times we just let it go. But the last time we brought it to their attention they had the nerve to get angry with us.
So last night when our bill came which was $37 and we put down a $50 it was upsetting that we were given $6 back. When I told a girlfriend of mine that it happened again she said “yeah it happens to me every time I go there, they always skim a few dollars off.” So as much as it pains me to say this I can't go back there again. They are not only rude but have literally started ripping customers off.
My advice is don’t go, unless you wanted to be treated like cattle, and if you do, make sure you check your bill.
