Very good restaurant if you are looking for fresh sashimi and sushi.

Disappointed with Sushi Honpo. I used to come here a lot especially for lunch, sushi is the highlight. Disappointed me twice. One time we went there for dinner but they were full, so I asked if I can come back in half an hour in the hope of getting a table, the waitress said no there won't be a table, I left without arguing that I can see a couple of their customers will finish within the half hour.

Anyway, went and looked for another jap restaurant with no luck so called sushi Honpo in half hour and spoke to another waitress who said that there is a table free, got there and there were a few tables free, I was annoyed by that but forgot about it. So the last time I went there was to have lunch, it closes at 2.30pm and we got there at 1.35pm, walked in and they told me that they are closed, the place had customers in there it just looked like they couldn't be bothered.

So on principle I have decided never to go back there due to the treatment especially as I was a regular. I think they get really lazy when the lady who looks like the senior staff is not there, seems to be the pattern.

I have been here a few times now, the food was great especially the Set Meal. If you decide to eat-in the restaurant, you have to wait for awhile for the first meal to be served in your table. I always choose Take-Away option then eat in the convenient of my own home.

I have been here twice now and the first time I went the dish that was most impressive was the Tempura. It was very nice and crispy and very enjoying to eat. Now here comes the bad part, the second time was nowhere near impressive, more like disappointing. The tempura was almost cold, the batter was not crispy at all and it was a real letdown. The Sashimi wasn't bad though, still cut in small slices just like last time.

Here comes the part where it is just ridiculous though. Have you been to a Japanese restaurant that can't afford to serve you anymore rice? I was told they had run out of rice so there's no more sushi. They had my number, I booked half an hour ago and they can't even call me to tell me they wouldn't be able to serve us rice? Since the menu isn't very extensive, this means no sushi or any rice dishes which limits what we can eat. This restaurant now qualifies for a fail score!

Great food, great service. The place is priced fairly and the portions are just right.

Very rare to see a proper Japanese restaurant run by real Japanese people in Sydney nowadays. Food wise, it's not the best in Sydney. However, I would give it a number one in the South Sydney region. Service was attentive, and friendly. Oh yea! the menu wasn't very long, make choosing much easier :)

All food extremely fresh, and so cheap! A group of 8, $15-$20 per head, with an abundance of food, we visit almost weekly for our sushi/sashimi fix. Small restaurant, good service.

I have been here twice and it will become our regular Japanese. I love this place. The sashimi is spanking fresh and priced very very reasonably. The tempura is also masterfully done with a delicate crispy batter. The service is friendly fast and efficient, all in all, a great experience.

The decor here is simple, the food comparable to most other japanese restaurants around at this price. The chef is japanese, and if you're after fresh sushi locally and don't want to drive down too far, then this place should satisfy your japanese cravings.
