We specifically asked for no straws to avoid waste. The only drink which came without huge disposable straws was the hot drink and that came in a disposable coffee cup with plastic lid. Oh, no, who cares a stuff about the environment?
Won't go there again.
It was a busy Friday night, so due to past experience, bad service, good food, we decided to try it again. We shouldn't have bothered! Not only was the food terrible, ordered sandong chicken, which was charcoal chicken on deep fried greens, was extremely dry. Like it was from the mornings batch, but reheated in the microwave. The dipping soya type sauce was cold, straight out of the fridge. The other dish, oyster stirfry with ginger and shallots was just as bad! Service, I won't go there since there wasn't any and the place, just as how I remembered it, shabby. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Based on past experiences with this restaurant, we decided to go again especially for its renowned Congee. Unfortunately, this time around not only did it seem much more expensive, but the service was even worse (it simply 'existed' before)
and the quality of the food itself was ultimately affected by the service.
Each dish averages out at $15, with the deep fried squid now costing $20, which tasted quite ordinary because it wasn't fried long enough. The chicken congee was, as expected, quite tasty and their other hot dishes were pretty tasty too. Unfortunately, we had a nightmare with the fried icecream. Only one out of the four ordered left the kitchen and as we were concerned that they may have forgotton our order, the other three came shortly after.
Needless to say the batter was burnt and the use of neopolean icecream was a poor choice given that it isn't as solid as a scoop of vanilla. The batter was burnt and much of the icecream was melted! We know service isn't big in a chinese restaurant but when it affects the food (fried icecream coming late) and being slightly rude about it did give a bad impression of this place. Lesson learnt. Go there for congee and congee only.
Food is quite nice, love the congee. I always come here for a midnight snack after a long night out. A bit dirty and noisy, but when you are sleepy and hungry, it will do.
Once a great down-market favourite, I've become a bit disappointed. It's a bit shabby to say the least, but that's part of the charm. Has become rather slow in the service department, and, perhaps, not quite as cheap as you'd expect, but the food is still pretty good.
Went here because it was open until 2am. It was a bit dirty, so if you're the type of person who is a bit precious then it's probably best to avoid it, but it kinda reminded me of some of the restaurants I went to in China.
My friend and I shared the salt and pepper squid which was really good, very tender! Also had the noodles with Cantonese dumplings, which were good. As with everything at Superbowl, the servings were massive (hence the name). The food was actually better than I expected, apart from the rice, it wasn't very fresh, we then went nextdoor for ice cream!
Congee is probably best in town, rest of the stuff is decent but not outstanding. Service is non existent and sometimes rude, especially during busy periods but I visit Superbowl only for the congee!!
I recently went to this restaurant after I received a awesome recommendation from a friend. I ordered Congee which was very very nice. The fried bread made the experience tastier. I then felt horrifed when I saw 2 cockroaches climbing the wall right next to where we ate. I felt grossed out. My food experience was shattered. Told the staff but they didn't care. I would love to see their kitchen to see how clean it is.
This place does have a few specialty dishes that make me coming back for more each time. I love the King Prawns with vermicelli and XO sauce. It's absolutely great with strong, spicy flavours. The texture is nice and the vermicelli entail the strong flavours.
This is my favourite seafood dish here. Another strong contender is the Pipi in XO sauce. I usually get either the King Prawns or the Pipi and not both (as I'm the main seafood eater in my family and bunch of friends). They are trying and can appear abit spicy at first but the flavours are very unique and worth trying. The congee is quite good and with the fried dough sticks, complete the meal. I could never eat the congee without ordering a decent serving of the friend dough sticks!
They have some pretty standard noodles and fried rice dishes. The Fujian fried rice is very different to normal friend rice and it has a sauce layered on top mixed with some other meats which tastes lovely. The pricing of this place it relatively decent compared to other restaurants on that street.
Service is not too bad but there is a waiting period for peak hours but normally you don't wait long anyways. If you got the money, I would really recommend the Peking Duck + sang choi bow.. THAT is my favourite dish which I only order on special occasions. Its made with strong flavours and usually leaves me asking for second servings!
Overall a great place to eat. Food is always good and they should get more credit than they deserve.
I don't know why people are complaining about the service when Superbowl offers such value for money. You can't have everything... If you want service, you can simply pay triple the money for one dish at a proper seafood restaurant.
Their congee is great (by Australian standards) and when coupled with a few sticks of fried dough, absolutely heaven. Their fried noodles are pretty average, but the price makes up for the mediocrity. Superbowl's pipi's cooked in XO sauce is also a great dish, and is also something that many so-called "Chinese restaurants" don't offer.
