This is our closest Thai restaurant. Unfortunately, it isn't our favourite. Pity 'cause it's so close.
The food is good enough, albeit overpriced. The TV drove me mad, playing annoying music videos! An unnecessary addition for sure! Service was good as we were one of only two customers there for lunch.
Was a little dubious about the quality of food at a La Perouse restaurant, let alone "Thai". However, I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Ordered the moneybags (thanks to other reviewers here) which were light and fresh. Salt and Pepper prawns, which, perhaps, should have been titled "pepper prawns" the pepper taste lingering in my mouth long after the plate was taken away. The prawns, however, were ever so lightly battered and 6 in an entree for $9 well you certainly can't argue with that.
Choo Chee chicken which to me was a cross between a satay and red curry sauce was tasty albeit bordering on the slightly too sweet scale. Drunken beef noodles, which had shards of broccolini, and whilst the beef (if I am to be overly critical) was slightly chewy, still hit high notes in terms of taste and just the right amount of heat.
All in all, this is a great little find and quite easily surpasses many of the other suburban Thai's in the Maroubra/Coogee area in terms of taste and value for money. Did I mention serving sizes? I am a big eater, and the 2 of us were full by the end of the meal. Big bonus, no corkage and there is a view!
I must admit, like other customers I was shocked to learn that the fellas sitting on the table in the front that were of non-thai background were the owners of this place. I'm going to be honest, I don't think that it is time to review this restaurant as I had come in quite late and they were practically closing up. We ordered the Crying Tiger beef and some money bags.
I was so disappointed with the beef that had come up. It looked dry and it came with a fish sauce dip to moisten it up with. Nothing like what I had expected. I was wondering if they skipped a couple of ingredients because they were closing up or whether it was really like that. Unlike the crying tiger beef that you get in other places, this dish was lacking the glistening touch, the moistness and the taste. I have made a decision to go back to this restaurant and give it another try.
Order something else. They may be able to produce something better this time round. The owners must remember that people that go here are most likely site see-ers or people that want a nice dinner. They pay for a view and some good food. I will return to update this review. Hopefully things will be better second time around.
Wow! what can I say....I don't think there's nothing more to add to be honest with you all, this place has it all. The food here is fresh, always hot and so tasty! The chefs/owners came out and sat down with us and were genuinely interested in how the meal was and if my boyfriend and I were pleased and enjoyed our dinner. We loved the meals so we gave them our positive feedback.
Still to this day - how many chefs/owners do you see that genuinely concerned that you enjoyed your meal and are satisfied? I can't name any but this restaurant has stood out in my mind for a long time. I live around the west area and drove all the way out there to eat Thai, it was worth the drive! I truly hope this restaurant goes far and they keep up the great service, food and their humble attitudes!!
A standing ovation to Sunset Thai!!
Went to check this place out based on the reviews from this site. I didn't really believe it could be that good, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food is absolutely fantastic! The middle eastern owner caught me by surprise, but the chefs and kitchen staff are all Thai, and the owner is extremely friendly. The food is fresh, tasty and authentic. Even my dining companion commented on how good it was. Great experience, you must try it if you are in the La Perouse area.
Quite a decent suburban Thai, but certainly not worth the straight 10s given here by mainly single purpose reviewers. The chefs are a bit heavy-handed with the sugar; Thai dishes are sweet but not that sweet. Fresh ingredients and interesting flavours, reasonable value for money.
This is up there with the best Thai places around. The food is consistently great. Never disappointed when we go there, this now is regular. The owner George is down to earth and a wonderful host always makes you feel welcome. This place is a little gem my only complaint is he isn’t open Mondays but well worth the wait. I don’t think there is a Thai eating local who doesn’t frequent this place either for dining in or delivery.
I must say this place has the best Thai food I have ever had!! The money bags and curry puffs are to die for! and the Pad Thai noodles with duck and the Massaman curry was so beautiful, I wanted more.
The service was fantastic and I am already planning to take my family and friends all the way out to La Pa just to have some of this food. If only they delivered out to Hoxton Park!!
