We come here all the time for great coffee, churros and empanadas. It gets very busy on the weekend and those in the know come early to get the good stuff otherwise it sells out!

Excellent coffee and hot chocolate is served here. The beef and olive empanadas were very good as well as the cherry custard tarts, the crushed meringue and the dulce de leche. Good value and service.

I went there with my wife and daughter one sunny weekend afternoon recently to find almost empty shelves, a poor selection to choose from and told that there were no churros available also. Very disappointing. You would think that a weekend afternoon would be their busy time. There were no other customers in the shop. No wonder really! Try the Chocolate Bar in Bay Street at Brighton instead.

    Response from Management:
    Dear Ed ,

Sorry to hear your visit to our store was met with below expectations. Whilst we try to have a wide selection of our products readily available, it's not always achievable to meet supply and demand. Successful patisseries like Zumbo in Balmain also experience the same problem. We open 5am daily and usually 99% of our range is available till about 2pm, there after we try to run out stock to (a) minimize wastage which offers our customers low prices and (b) guarantees the freshest product daily rather than selling old produce.

Thank you for taking the time to share your views and hopefully next time your experience will be met with different circumstances.

    Thank you.
    Kurt

My family and I are weekly visitors to this lovely Patisserie and have been for over 2 years. The food is exceptional, my 18 month old daughter loves the empanadas (also the Christmas Gingerbread Men!). The service is exceptional and all staff and friendly and eager to please. And you can't go pass the great coffee!! Thanks Kurt, Wendy and staff!

I have lived in the area for 6 years and have probably been here as many times. I'll start by saying the food is actually really good, the service, however, is the reason I have been so infrequently.

Each time I go in I try to keep a clear head from the poor service I received the time before only to be met by the usual disappointment. This morning was the worst so far. There was two people ahead of us at the counter, no problem. The lady making the coffee stood idle so we asked if we could order a coffee to get that going while we waited. She told us we needed to order from the other girl behind the counter, no problem, they have protocol and we respected that.

While we are waiting another man walks in straight up to the coffee counter and orders a coffee right in front of us, she didn't blink, she even got him other stuff from the food section. Annoying for everyone else waiting. We finally get to the counter and order a few things including the coffee. The coffee was a skim latte and ended up being made with full milk, we let it slide. When the 4 empanadas we ordered arrived after being heated out the back there was only 3 in the box, we had to go back for the 4th which we had paid for.

Really annoying. I'm not sure how a business can get food so right and service so wrong.

For a slice of South American heaven by the bay, a great place to visit the neighbours for meats, fruit and veg. and then take your pick from Sugarloaf's treats. Churros, mince beef and olive empandas, portuguese tarts and don't forget a coffee! Readers, leave your enclave and make the trip.

Having read the SMH review on fruit mince pies last week, I decided to try Sugarloaf's version. Delicious, especially with warm vanilla custard! I also bought an Argentinas torte, a sponge cake with fruits, walnuts, crushed meringue, fresh cream, and dulce-de-leche. Amazing! I will be back to try some of their other offerings very soon!

Excellent coffee, better than Melbourne. Best chocolate croissants in town (Mosman, eat your heart out, these guys use Belgian chocolate, not out of date powder and coconut oil). Adore the round aniseed croissants on weekends. Exciting combination of South American staples and Viennese patisserie, the cherry custard tarts are great, but don't go past the ricotta cannoli, spinach and cheese empanadas, and quince tarts.
