The food here was incredible! My friends and I enjoyed every plate we ordered (about 7 or so different ones). The presentation was great and the entree sizes were perfect for our group of 5 people. The pork ribs and garlic prawns are a must have if you go.
The service is a bit of a let down since everything else is so good. The waiter was a little arrogant and rude. Price for food was very reasonable once the bill was split. Will be back again to try the different cooked meats!
I enjoyed this place but found it pricey for what it was. Noisy which I don't mind and loved the actual look of the place. Disappointed in service, a very arrogant waiter who sat down with us to take our order, asked if we wanted change (meal was $71 using entertainment card and we gave him $100, yes we do please!), and snatched the tong out of my hands after we asked for help getting meat off the skewer even though there were tongs hanging up and another waiter offered to help the table near us. I wouldn't want to be served by him again.
My hubby and I had a great time when we visited Subsolo. The atmosphere was lovely despite being surrounded by groups (birthday parties and hen's nights). We tried a range of tapas and were satisfied. We will be going back to try the Portuguese skewers. Don't miss the chocolate pudding! To die for!
Food is ok but quite expensive. If it wasn't for the Entertainment Card I'm not sure I'd come back, 4 king prawns for $24! Sangria was magnificent though. Service is a not bad, the manager is very welcoming. When we arrived with our booked table not ready, he gave us complementary olives and roasted paprika almonds. Olive bread is fantastic.
We had a variety of tapas on what seemed an average busy night. This place really needs more servers so they can pay attention to each table. We felt neglected at times, however, a bit of shouting and hand waving did not go wrong. But it shouldn't have to be that way. Our server was knowledgeable, along with attention from the manager which was appreciated. But this was after many stomach grumbles having to wait about 30 minutes for the first plates to arrive.
For two people you will probably be satisfied with between 3 and 5 plates. We were stuffed after 3 as we had nothing but bread to eat for the first 30 minutes. Just as well we got to enjoy the better plates first. These included the prawns in cream sauce, excellent, the mussels, although the broth was a bit too salty, the peppers stuffed with goats cheese were nice and delicate. The stuffed pork loin had great filing, however, the pork itself was bone dry.
Probably the saddest potato bravas I have ever encountered. Dry, too much chilli in the stodgy tomato chutney. Tasted of day old reheat/recooked potato. Not good.
The spanish wine list was a treat. We enjoyed some interesting whites along with a few decent reds. Recommendation of the server were spot on. The estpetadas looked great, and, perhaps, we may return for these one time. Hopefully more good staff are hired by then.
Subsolo is one of those places you would be so happy to have stumbled upon. Dined there with three of my girlfriends and all of us were equally impressed. The tapas and paella were great. the Sangria beautiful and a highlight. A completely enjoyable experience. Melbourne eat your heart out. Subsolo is in Sydney!
Subsolo is the place to be seen in Sydney with unique charm. Service was spectacular as was the delicious menu choice (warm lamb salad, espatatas, choc pudding and sangria a must to try). We have now made Subsolo our regular place to dine on our girls night out! We just love Subsolo!
Love love love Subsolo. Food is fantastic, wonderful mix of flavours. Decor and service is great too. It's good to see this sort of place open in Sydney (it's much more "Melbourne"). A wonderful dining experience.
We were recommended to try Subsolo, so my sister had her birthday dinner here with our family and her friends in the tapas bar on Friday and it was a great night. As you walk down the steps the decor in the place is quite overwhelming. Very unique and somewhat different to what you would expect, however, it works. We had a set menu which cost $60 each and the food didn't disappoint!
Great tapas and the most amazing skewers of salted beef and spicy chicken. The chicken was a bit too hot for our liking but all in all everyone agreed that the food was very good. Our waiter was great and organised an impromptu birthday cake with candle that made my sisters night. Looking forward to taking my friends next time!
We dined at Subsolo on Saturday prior to our show and enjoyed it very much. The food was great and contrary to some reviews I have read, the service was both friendly and attentive. Our degustation menu started off well with some lovely Jamon Serrano and yummy roasted olives. I've never tried hot olives before but I think I'm converted!
The tapas were all tasty and generous and the main course chargrilled skewers were very impressive the way they dangled from a stand on the table. I have no hesitation in recommending Subsolo and we look forward to dining there again soon. Definitely a must try.
