Well they must have made some changes to this place because I really like it! The girl who serves in the mornings is friendly and professional, plus she makes a great coffee, and all the cakes, pastries etc and fabulous! It is a bit small in there but they have done something with the interior and the lighting to give it a real french patisserie ambience.

I went into drummoyne for the first time late in the day hoping to pick up something I could have for dinner, not a great selection but that was my fault dropping so late, so took one of each of the two dishes available, plus a sausage roll and a pastry. Would say the two dishes heated up for dinner superbly, pastry was excellent, price was fine for the quality and service was efficient and perfectly fine, now considering them for a small function instead of doing the cooking myself.

And I thought it was just me they didn't like! Yes the food is beautiful and I usually pick something up from here for dessert if I'm going to a party and want to impress. But the only person who has ever smiled at me there was a young waitress who probably wasn't informed about the company policy. They seem more friendly with the regulars.

Leave your elbows at the door, this place is very, very cosy. Imagine eating in a straight jacket. Tables are barely big enough to hold an iPad, let alone plates, cups and cutlery for three or four as the seating suggests. Furniture courtesy of Toys R Us tea party dept. As for the rickety cane chairs, draw lawsuits at twenty paces, you may need them.

The food is good and fresh. Beef pie contains real chunks, not chewy, gravied mince and a crisp pastry, even at the bottom. Tuna patty also with real flakes of tuna. Both came with fresh salads. As good as they were, the desserts were better. Sticky date pudding, apple/cinnamon crumble and a croissant with teas and coffees. All three were remarkably good but that unbeeeleeevable pudding. Moist, moorish and the standout of the meal. In fact the vast array of pastries looked fantastic.

Apart from the menu board, there were no other prices listed. The food was above average, but the bill suggested we just ate at Tetsuya's. Once you get past the Brick Wall Counter Lady, it might be an idea to ask how much first.

Overall, very good at the food bit, not so good at the dining bit. Grab one (or two) their fantastic pastries and a cuppa and head down to the water's edge for as much elbow room as you like.

I have to agree with a comment already listed. The pastries are good but can I say, the frozen prepared foods are very basic and tasteless. But the most concerning thing about Strudel Baron is the 'couldn't care less' attitude of the staff.
Infact, I am happy to go without the nice pastries and avoid the staff. The other comment referred to their site at Drummoyne, my encounter was at their Rozelle location. So it seems a lack of a smile and friendly service is part of this companies policy! Sad

I find the tarts really beautiful! Most of the pastries and desserts I have tried are of a high quality. However, the only thing I would discount them is probably their friendliness in service. I've walked past the owner several times offering up a smile and I get nothing! Strange considering I am a local and a regular. However, I did order a tart as a gift and she came back to me and said there was a crack and it wasn't to her standard, so she baked me a new one. So quality of food is fantastic, but not so open and friendly.
