Came here a couple of weeks ago. The food was excellent and I've been craving the caramelized pumpkin salad I had ever since. I did think that it was a bit expensive, but then again everything in the Blue Mountains seems to be.
Had breakfast here with my husband and daughters on Sunday. My husband ordered poached eggs with asparagus, kids had french toast and I have poached eggs with bacon. The food was great and we will definitely be back. The young boy serving was super sweet too. French toast was delicious and well prepared but a little too rich for the kids. I ended up eating it because it was so delicious. The coffee is good too and you can order it french style in a bowl. What's not to love!
We had a seriously fantastic lunch here. One was the special of asparagus with poached asparagus. Clean, fresh flavours - beautifully done. (where do they source asparagus from in April?) But the dish of Roasted Vegetable Stack was superb! Beetroot, aubergine, capsicum, pumpkin, asparagus and a wonderful tomato sauce. My husband tasted it and insisted we share but it was too damn good to give away bites! (a tad oily if there is to be any quibble) The staff were lovely and engaging and even involved our two kids in the preparation. Next time I want to impress my foodie friends I'm going to try to recreate that Veggie StacK!
Small cafe on the mall with a funky yet grungy vibe not at all Leura but nice to see something different here. Had the chorizo breakfast and absolutely loved it. The coffee is good too. Looks like I just found the location for my breakys and lunches in leura. PS the price is good too. Will be going back.
An admittedly small space, the Stockmarket Cafe is a funky, down to earth spot amongst the snobbery of leura. The coffee is always of a high standard and as other comments confirm, the breakfasts, soups and specials are wonderful at first glance, but their wonder is truly revealed once you see the tiny kitchen worked furiously by a single chef (who also makes all the fantastic cakes!).
Tension does become visible between the mother and son working the front of house (but who wouldn't become frustrated working full time with their mother?). But despite her sometimes brisk manner, the 'mother' who makes the coffees is a lively and interested hostess once you get talking to her. The two other female staff members have always been gracious and hospitable in my experience.
All in all a great place with very real staff members (who also have a good taste in music!) and fantastic food. I recommend the chorizo breakfast, vegetable stack for lunch and always the soup of the day!
Great food and coffee, although the food was quite slow to arrive given that we only ordered a salad and panini. Service was friendly and very casual. Very crowded inside but it was lovely sitting outside, a great spot to people watch and read the paper.
Well, I am so glad to read that others have had bad experiences at this cafe, I thought it was just me! The coffee was ok, the Breakfast of a high standard, but the service!? I thought I was in the eastern suburbs of Sydney on a busy weekday morning, not a peaceful early Sunday morning at 8:20 am in the Blue Mountains. I could not believe the coldness and plain rudeness the mother and son team treated me with.
What a shame, that city folk, coming up to beautiful Leura to get away from the cold, rushed service of the city, only to be met with stony, arrogant faces on a Sunday morning. Sad to think this is an image some will take away from Leura.
I'm an ex-Monuntains resident now living in Sydney's inner west. I spend alot of time in much busier, better cafe's. I've never had my Sunday morning spoiled so much as I did at Stockmarket Cafe.
As previous comments said the food is always nice but the eating experience put me off too many times and I decided not to come back. Given the tiny space having the huge communal table in there does not make sense and having to get up for people to arrive/leave ruins the otherwise good food. Also the staff needs a lecture on customer service. Too much attitude.
We ate breakfast here on a recent visit to Leura and found that the quality of the food and the great coffee made it by far the best breakfast we had in the mountains that weekend. A small cosy place that was perfect on a cool Monday morning as the sun shone in and warmed us nicely whilst we sat in the window. Can't say I noticed the service one way or the other. I was just glad to get a great coffee and a hot delicious breakfast!
