Great pub food here. The chef here really knows his food. With weekly specials that always surprises and the special meal deals for $10 Chicken Schnitzels with chips, salad and sauce mon, wed, fri and $10 Scotch fillet steak chips, salad and sauce can't go wrong here if on a budget.
Went for dinner at our local on Friday night, bistro is under very new management, now called GEORGIES, and we were very pleasantly surprised!
My partner enjoyed some delicious pork shanks with homemade coleslaw, cooked to perfection. I had the vegie risotto which was absolutely delish, not too creamy as some can be. It was just right and very flavoursome.
We shared the sticky date pud for dessert and thought we had died and gone to heaven. We will definitely be back, with friends in tow! The guitarist/singer, which I was told is a regular Friday night feature was very nice to have in the background as we ate, the lighting very nice and cosy.
I go to the St George tavern every wednesday for trivia. Tony and Claire, the owners, are absolutely wonderful people, and I always enjoy my food - great variety week to week and good value too. Give it a go!
This once truly awful pub was made over last year and really is worth a visit if you are a local. The bistro is really small and the service can be quite slow on busy nights (wed) but the value for money is outstanding.
The chef Daniel Grainger, along with making what is possibly the best mash potato and mushroom sauce known to man, includes 4 new specials each week. My recent fav was the guiness battered king prawns on green pea mash with roast potatoes. This meal would have been at home in any of Sydney's top restaurants.
The other top fav is good old chicken breast schznitel on mash potato with mushroom sauce. The chicken breast is at least an inch think. Give it a try.
