Popped in after taking a class at the surf school next door. Laid back and friendly atmosphere. I had the BLT which was phenomenal! I'm still thinking about that multi-grain bun. It lives up to its reputation. Can't wait to go back.

I don't think North Bondi would be the same without speedos, a legendry cafe and in an amazing location. My favourite time to go is 4ish when you can sit by the window, enjoy a great coffee and watch the waves chopping on the golden bondi sand. Just love it.

Speedo's is a Bondi institution and should be on everyone's To Eat List.

FOOD: the eggs benny is top of my list: the poached eggs are always perfect. The omelette is fluffy and filling. The fruit salad is huge and served with a delicious side of granola and yoghurt. The banana bread is beautiful and for a quick and healthy snack grab the ready-made yoghurt, fruit and granola pots. For a beachside cafe, Speedo's punches above it's weight with consistently oustanding meals.

DRINKS: on a hot day you can't beat the lemonade and mint cooler. On a cold day choose one of the great selection of teas (I can recommend the Well-being Tea). Although I'm not a coffee drinker, I take friends to Speedo's all the time and they always seem to love the coffee. As a self-confessed chocolate milkshake junkie, it's not the best I've ever had, but pretty good and very big.

SERVICE: I've been a regular breakfaster at Speedo's for a few years now. In fact, Speedo's even sends me a happy birthday email with a voucher for a free meal each year, which is awesome! I must admit, I have encountered the occasional (maybe only once), less than enthusiastic serving staff. However, on my most recent visit in April '09 the staff were friendly, helpful, polite and exceedingly attentive.

I had my tea immediately replaced when I knocked the tea leaves into the cup and I got a personal happy birthday wish as I handed over my voucher. Speedo's have obviously taken note of the service feedback and are doing something about it. Speedo's gets noisy, busy and yes, there are weekend surcharges, but there's a reason for this: the food is reliably excellent and the views are fantastic. Why else would all these people keep on going back when there is no shortage of cafes in Bondi?

TIP: don't be put off by lots of people at the entrance: most are waiting for takeaway or waiting to pay at the counter.

The food here is amazing. The berry and ricotta hotcakes are melt in the mouth, the coffee is perfect, the frappes are fruity and cool, the beans on toast are rustic and have that homemade goodness and the banana milkshakes, well, not as good as the rest but not bad. However, is that really enough? I could handle the slightly sticky tables, the ripped sofas and say it adds to the character of the place (I mean that view is great) but the service is really poor.

I can understand that it gets busy but even when it isn't the waiting staff ignore you and when they finally talk to you, they make you feel like you should be grateful. The only time they are attentive is when you look like you are about to leave, they make sure you've paid. If you can brave the waiting staff, the food is superb!

A reasonable breakfast, though the bacon was so overdone the bacon lovers at the table couldn't eat it. Problem is how they charge. At first we were billed for two tables, ours and somebody else's. When queried, they corrected it, but left listed at the bottom of the bill a 10% surcharge, and an additional 5% surcharge. Two surcharges?? In fact there are three. The big breakfast dish has a weekend surcharge already built into it on the menu (it goes up from $13-ish to almost $16 at the weekend).

So you have the big breakfast surcharge, plus the overall 10% surcharge, plus the overall 5% surcharge. When queried further they removed one of the surcharges, but I'll never be back. There are better places with equally good views that don't frizzle the bacon beyond recognition and don't charge a weekend surcharge. Yes, even in Bondi.

I've been here twice in one week because the eggs benedict is to die for and the coffee is the best I've had in Sydney! The other morning I had two coffees and each one had a different design in the foam/milk on top. It's fun to sit at the counter facing the beach too!

A great place to sit and relax early in the morning with the newspaper or after doing the Bondi-Bronte run/walk. Haven't sampled the food lately, but the coffee is amongst the best in Bondi.

I went to breakfast yesterday @ Speedo's with my partner and 3 friends. The waitress whose attention I grabbed was very sour and it seemed like such an effort to have a table by the wall. Her bad attitude was made up for by a lovely South American waitress who was very sweet and helpful. I had the Bircher Muesli with mango which was quite good although it would have been great if they had an option of granola/toasted muesli or marmalade to offer with toast. I will come back again!

It seems like a bit of a contradiction but a few weeks ago on a cool windy Saturday afternoon; I took a cosy seat at Speedos with a friend for a late lunch looking at the choppy waves breaking on Bondi Beach. The service was quick, friendly and efficient. I had the minestrone soup and my friend had the pancakes. It was the best minestrone soup I've ever had (and I've tried many a minestrone!) - It was served with a blob of pesto and grated parmesan in the middle and the tomato taste was quite strong. I will definitely go back there for the minestrone or anything else on the menu!

Speedo's is a relaxing place to enjoy a great breaky or a light lunch. My favourite meal is the chicken burger with a mango smoothy followed with a nice coffee. The service is great and the view is fantastic.
