Went there with booking on a Friday night. The place was full by 7pm. So an early booking is recommended!
Food: Very nice with generous serving, we had the gnocchi and tortellini for entree. You should try them if you go there.
Beverage: We brought our wines, and at $4 per bottle, it is a bargain. Instead of some cheap and small wine glasses, they give you decent glasses which is a nice gesture.
Service: Friendly and fast.
Value: 3 courses for $55, it is fantastic value.
Highly recommended, but not if you are on a diet.

The Duck tortellini is amazing, great value and service. Well considered wine list. A Newtown gem!

Unfortunately, our experience of Soffritto did not live up to all of the hype. We were met at the door by a waiter who, from first encounter, was rude, arrogant and just plain unpleasant. The restaurant is laid out nicely and the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, however, then came the food problems.
Both starters of the duck tortellini and duck pate were excellent but were both quickly overshadowed by the terrible chicken pie which arrived on a plate with two carrot sticks looking like an island in a very large sea on the plate. This could not feed a two year old and there was no promised chorizo within. It was hard to even find chicken over the excessively thick pastry. Not good at all. My wife's beef was overlooked and looked like an off cut but the sauce and mashed potato were very cook.
Desserts were acceptable, however, the terrible, terrible mains and the abysmal service had already ruined the experience. We almost had to beg to get the table cleared, our wine and water was never poured for us and the attitude was jaw-droppingly rude.

Went there with a group of 6 and we had a great time. In addition to the other reviews can recommend the pate and the spatchcock. Our warm chocolate pudding took ages to come out, and was a little undercooked when it came (though we still ate it all up!). Service, atmosphere and price were spot on. Recommended.

This lovely little gem in Newtown serves truly amazing European/Italian cuisine. (Contrary to what many people think, Newtown is not just about Thai cuisine, you just need to explore a bit). And with $49 for a 3-course meal, it won't break your wallet. Too bad this place is only open for dinner, special functions aside.
As mentioned by some reviewers, the best dish in this place is the duck tortellini, trust me, you won't be disappointed. The gnocchi is heavenly, with just the right amount of cream in the sauce. The pork ragu is also excellent, portion is a bit large, however. For dessert, the chocolate cake is among the best I've ever had. The honeycomb torrone, however, is a tad too sweet for my taste.
This place is definitely a favorite and can count me as a repeat customer. Make sure you go there before they raise the price up again (they've increased the price for the 3-course meal at least twice already this year, can't really blame them).

I have tried the duck tortellini and gnocchi as the entree, Spatchcock and beef as the main. The gnocchi feels like it melts in your mouth. The tortellini is delicious (the filling), but outside is a bit tough. The main are nice, it would be better if it has more flavour! Ordered the pannacotta and chocolate pudding as desserts, they taste quite good, but the pudding is a bit try and tastes plain.
The ambience is quite good with dim light and music, though a bit noisy. I feel that the table is not matching with the chair, so it is not comfortable.
Service is alright, water was provided when we were seated and they were very attentive to check if we still have enough. It would be better if they can take the small plates away when we have finished the entree instead of leaving them till we finished whole 3 courses.
Overall, it is a good place to try, with $49 for 3 courses. If they have more variety of dishes or they change menu occasionally so that we don't get bored.

Soffritto is one of the rare restaurants that actually lives up to it's outstanding reputation (with food critics and diners alike) every time.
At $49 for three courses, it is excellent value. The duck tortellini entree was melt in the mouth delicious, the steak main cooked to perfection, and the warm chocolate pudding with strawberries an explosion of flavours, velvety and sweet without being too rich.
The service is fast, professional and friendly. The decor is modern, but still warm and inviting. It is quite a small, intimate restaurant and this does make for the only downside, the tables are a little too close together, meaning you can hear your fellow diners conversations (and almost feel like you are part of them!)
In summary, this is a lovely little restaurant for a special occasion, but also inexpensive enough for a casual midweek meal.

The highlight of this restaurant is the food. From entree, through to main and onto dessert everything tasted delicious. The entrees were just the right portion to start off a delicious meal, the beef wrapped pancetta was cooked to perfection and the soufflé is to die for (esp in winter). Soffritto is a great place to enjoy a great meal. Can’t wait to go back.
