Love this place, my husband and I eat here all of the time, nice quick and easy. Fresh and very tasty. Would recommend the rice paper rolls or any of the noodle dishes.
Had lunch here yesterday. It was tasty, well constructed, spicy, tender and just delicious. The portions at lunch did tend towards small however I thought it was fine for a mid day meal and the value for money is exception. A small diner but we had no problems getting seated. Definitely recommend this and will re-visit.
Blink and you'll miss this place. As previous reviewers mentioned, it is BYO and is right next door to a bottle-o (as pointed out by the very helpful waiter). In fact lets talk about the service - great customer relation skills. I had requested a particular dish on the menu that sounded very similar to Massaman Beef (which did not appear on the menu) when to my suprise the waiter said I could have some Massaman if I wanted to - fabulous curry .. strong flavour and perfect balance of beef and potato.
This is a great find, the Asian guy who runs the place does a wonderful job in customer relations and ensuring your meal arrives fast and hot. The food is real home style Thai, extremly clean and excellent value. If you're around the area during the day, check out the lunch specials, you can't beat it for value (meal + drink $7.90). Overall a refreshing change to the rest of the mob on the Oxford strip
I was delighted to see Snakebean on eatability and surprised at the low rating. Undoubtedly deserves a much higher rating. The food is Fresh, Delicious and Incredibly Good Value. I think SinonE2 says it all - "Do yourself a favour and check it out for yourselves."
As a local Darlinghurst resident, I can gladly say that Snakebean is a little breath of fresh air to the often overcharged restaurant scene in the 2010 area. Not only can they cook a mean dish, the staff, in particular the very easy on the eye manager Rhys, made the dining experience an absolute pleasure.
Although not licensed, thankfully it is BYO, no corkage, and conveniently next door to a bottle shop. The menu is small, but still the selection should appease most. The restaurant is compact, some may say confining, but to me it gave it an almost communal feel, there was a lot more interaction between fellow diners, and the service had an almost 'hands-on' approach.
Tip: if you come in at lunch, take advantage of the $7.95 specials. Highly recommended.
Love this place! Confused about the reviews form some others - eat here really regularly and have never had a bad meal. It's cheap and cheerful like they say it is - simple good flavours and staff are friendly. It is just a hole in the wall cafe with a smallish menu - but everything seems like it is cooked to order - and the flavours are great. I love the chicken eggplant and the crispy prawns + the chicken noodles. They could do with bigger range of softdrink and maybe add tea to the menu. But BYO is free! Really worth a try-what do you want for $9 a main? Check it out yourself I reckon.
This has to be one of the worst meals I've had in Sydney. As for value, there are several other wonderful inexpensive noodle shops in the neighborhood who put on a much tastier, fresher, and more generous spread. This meal had the taste of a bad chinese cook trying to imitate thai flavors. The fried spring rolls (they were out of both types of rice paper rolls) had clearly been frozen and were tasteless and gluey. The beef was so salty it was barely edible; the vegetables, including the lemon garnish, were withered and appeared to have been chopped several days ago judging by the brownish edges; the noodle dish was a lukewarm soggy mess of sauce and undercooked chicken. Am usually willing to give new restaurants a second go, but this was too appalling to merit a repeat visit.
