Great ambience and service.
The El Circo Degustation night is very (very) good although you probably won't want to come for the "Just George" George Michael Tribute unless you are a complete George Michael tragic and shaking your booty with middle-aged tipsy women seemingly direct from Rooty Hill RSL is your thing.
The food is also very good but the wine list is only Ok and overall it is drink prices that drop the value of this otherwise excellent venue.

I have been to Slide twice now to see El Circo. The first time was when a friend hired out the mezzanine level for cocktails. I missed the start of the show but what I saw was mind blowing and the view from the mezz, breathtaking. Last night, I did the full degustation with a seat right in front of the stage and I tell you what, it was quite a show.
All the people writing on here about the show distracting you from the food have got it all wrong. You don't go to El Circo for the food! The food is above average - the sweets especially good but the show is where it's at. From the trapeze to the bed of nails and the hilarious host, this is a must see.

The web site boasts a "9 Course Degustation". We were invited to join some friends for the El Circo meal, based on that proposition. Maybe my maths aren't that good, but the web site menu shows only seven dishes. Perhaps, I am missing something. Anyway, approach things with an open mind, is my motto, out they came. One of the seven "courses" happens to be a "virtual" dish. Some food smells contained in a balloon that you sniff through a small hole in the balloon.
By my reckoning, that's only six courses (but I may be a harsh judge). To be honest, the food is only average. The tastes were certainly different, and the presentation quite novel. But I have to say, food is about, well, food. And I think there seems to be a tendency in a lot of restaurants today to go for culinary trends, like "degustation" and "nouvelle cuisine". The net result for the punter seems to be less food. Certainly, you would not want to starve yourself before eating at Slide's degustation.
The ambience at Slide has to be unique. Set in what seems like a room that was previously a bank vault, the "El Circo" theatre experience involves a glamourous MC with a penchant for risque punch lines, and a multitude of trapeze artists, hoola hoop girl, and two skinny guys doing pole dancing and ordinary dancing. The overall effect is a big distraction from the food. Like the novel presentation of the food, the entertainment is a bit of a novelty but nothing anything better than what you would get at a B grade eatery in Las Vegas.
Another aspect of the ambience was the presence of two tables of one hen's night. I'm not sure if that is very common, but that should give you some indication of the what seems to be a target market. I guess that target would exclude me.
The service was prompt, however, at last, a redeeming factor. This was particularly important given that the place was full and all dishes were served pretty much all at the same time (albeit a little off temperature). Everyone of the staff was smiling. And that can be a good thing!
Considering the cost of $90, and the fare being pretty average, I would say that the value was not all that great. Sure the food was a little different in taste and presentation, but there was not much of it (especially the smelling course). And the entertainment was also fairly average. To be honest, I would prefer to forego the entertainment and have more substance in the meal. There are degustaiton meals available elsewhere in Sydney for only slightly more and that I think are better value. Time for Slide to reinvent itself, I think.

El Circo at Slide Bar is an interesting night out for the reasonably broad minded. While the food isn't haute cuisine, it is quite good and served with a dose of laughter on the side. The great entertainment peppers the evening and, while I wouldn't take my grandmother, it is fine for friends, even a fun business acquaintance, and perfect for hens and bucks nights, birthday celebrations and large tables. We went in a group of four and it was a laugh! Stay on for the DJ after the show. Great for a different dining experience.

Went there on Sunday night for EL Ciro and the '9 course' meal. Amazing ambience. You feel like you are somewhere in Europe not Sydney. The food was interesting. Some courses were edible, some not! The first course consisted of different pea dishes was terrible and the next course which was a blue crab mexican dip, all you can taste is mayonaise. From then on it wasn't so bad. You go there for the fun, the ambience, the show but not the food.

This venue is great for parties, or just to go out and have a great time, especially late on Friday/Saturday night! The food was okay, nothing spectacular, but it's a small quibble when the venue is great and the service is excellent! A definite must for anyone whom has never given it a go!

This place is great. We went with a friend last Thursday for the $60 dinner and show. Both were great. The entertainment and food have always been excellent. El Circo on Sunday nights is great (we tried to get in this weekend and were disappointed they were fully booked).
The service last time was a little all over the place with sides not coming out with the mains plus we had to ask for them. However the staff were apologetic and we didn't get the attitude you would normally get. There is nothing like this venue in Sydney.

A beautiful surprise! Ambience you thought only existed in Melbourne; a menu that's understated, minimal yet covers the spectrum well enough, service that is friendly, unobtrusive and helpful, and musical sounds that exhilarate and engage. Loved it!

Was here last night for an event and the place is spectacular! Awesome atmosphere, absolutely delicious food and excellent music. Great service but the waiters were a little slow but not uncaring. Again, great place would come back!
