What can I say SOR rocks, one little fun community crammed in together in search of the perfect daily dose. Staff are fun and the word quirky comes to mind. It does get busy but for me thats all part of it, the attention to each coffee and food presentation under the tight conditions they work under only impresses me more. Good karma to gav and his team.
The coffee here is always super consistent. It is great to see people who have a passion and real love for what they are doing. I walk 15 minutes during my lunch just for an espresso at this place, and it is sure worth it.
Really really good coffee, seriously good, lip smackingly, tongue twistingly, belly rubbingly, booty shakingly so. Ambience is good, not quite coffee temple amazing but good. Coffee isn't expensive at all, it's superb, I'd pay more even.
Service though was a let down. I put it down to me being with a group of 8, indecisive and ordering twice. I took the initiative, got everyone's order and went inside but got told off and had to sit back down. Uh ok. I don''t really expect silver service at a cafe but whatever floats your boat ma'am.
We then think we get everything after the second order starts coming in (we made it because the coffee is so good) but miss one affogatto. We then get a fish shaken in part jest/frustration. I don't see why she was so rushed when it didn't seem all that busy. I wanted to chill, the waitress wanted to show some personality. Let me chill.
I want to root for this place. The owner seems like a really cool guy. The coffee is next level. I was willing to give it a glowing review but I can't. Maybe I need to become a regular or maybe I need a sense of humor or my friends need thicker skin or something. I could have served myself and this would have been possibly a top of the pile joint. It's all a misunderstanding I'm sure but I can't score the service high in good faith.
Food being the coffee, these guys are the Tetsuya's of Sydney cafes minus the price tag thankfully. Service is very much the owners reflection - vibrant, cheeky and warm.
Ambience is very Melbournian, quiet corner, shop smaller than a Meriton apartments kitchen yet so warm and fuzzy. Value is pretty much the same price tag as any coffee shop. Given the top three attributes above, it is the best value coffee in Sydney.
What can I say that hasn't been said previously, GREAT and definitely the BEST coffeehouse in Sydney. There aren't flaws in this place even if you tried to find them with a telescope.from the way you get greeted to the goodbye this place stands for quality and respect. Assurance guaranteed in every aspect.
I have recently moved to Singapore and one of the main things I miss about Sydney is my daily hit at Single Origin. Coffee for those people who love coffee with an idiosyncratic crowd united by their quest for a decent cup. Keep up the great work Gav and the team and please open up a branch in Singapore, I am dying up here.
