Myself and 4 friends ate here last night, 18 June, because of the 'all you can eat' special found on eatability. When we arrived we were a little sceptical because it is a tiny restaurant (so make sure to book) and not much decor. We were sat with another group surrounding the hot plate and were served a basic salad and 3 bite size pieces for entree. Then the cooking began.....
The prawns were definitely NOT frozen as per EDI's comment. The skills the chef used to de-shell on the hot plate was amazing, the taste, sensational! Then came the calamari, soft, tender and delicious. The dishes kept coming and coming, everything was so good!!
At the end of all the dishes, the chef asked which ones we would like more of but we could not fit another bite in!
I would highly recommend this place for the quality, taste and value for money. It is only small.....2 hot plates which seat about 10 people on each, so make sure to book and it is BYO, so bring a couple of bottles of wine.
In regards to EDI's comment about her husband not being able to eat chilli.....she should have told the chef. One of the men at our hot plate table was highly allergic to seafood, so they specially cooked his food on a separate hot plate. Not hard, just speak up beforehand!
I highly recommend this place and will be bringing back more friends for some great food. DELICIOUS!
Response from Management:
Thanks,K_J !!
That's the point, chefs cook in front of you, if any one need any specially cook or taste, very easy, he just next to you !!
I am a teppanyaki lover, I 've been to many teppanyaki rest. around Sydney. Showchef teppanyaki is my first choice!! The food is amazing delicious, the chef is very entertaining and good service. I've dining in this restaurant since May 2007. and I alway chose set meals.
Last week, 3rd of Jun, 5 of us chosen All you can eat, 10 dishes after, we repeat 3 times fish and calamari and 4 times teri chicken. I had a big meal on that night, cause the food was delicious, we heard the eatability customer special offer from next table, we asked the chef Honda about that, we got the discount without the offer coupon. Great! I will bring friends come back again and again!!!
Went here 20th May and was so disappointed. Husband and I had the all you can eat special (which has gone up $2 to $26.80 not $24.80 as per special offer listed here) which was a lot of food but so uninspiring.
The entrees listed are sushi and tempura but you don't get both and you don't get to choose which one you want, it is up to the chef. However the night we were there we were presented with three sushi roll pieces (after being told it would be nigiri sushi and then had to request wasabi as none accompanied them) that were like most people could make at home and obviously required the least effort by the chef as 8 people including ourselves had arrived all at once.
You are limited to 2 prawns per person (which kind of contradicts the all you can eat aspect) which is the same as most teppanyaki set menus but the prawns are clearly frozen and come shelled so no prawn head chips for those that enjoy them. Calamari was flavourless except for the chilli paste added (my husband can't eat chilli and there was no mention of this being added on the menu so he just didn't eat it) and the fish was bland as could be. Highlights included teriyaki chicken and thinly sliced beef. The rice was nice but again they added a chilli paste to it that was overpowering and about as un-Japanese (more like Malay or Singaporean) as I have ever tasted.
At the end of the meal the chef asks you if you would like more of anything (except prawns) which is great for really big eaters but by the time we had got through all the courses and at least tasted them we had more than enough. We didn't try the tofu as neither of us likes it but we tried everything else (at least one mouthful anyway) to see what it was like. Nothing blew us away.
The final problem we had and this is only partially the restaurants fault is that there was this obnoxious guy who arrived half way through the meal and proceeded to talk on his mobile phone at the top of his voice as he was eating alone. The staff should have said something to him but I suppose they can't risk losing local regulars. Something we will never become after this visit. If you want good quality teppanyaki go to Chinatown or North Sydney not here.
Update: I stand by my review. In response to the management - (1) We had the printed out offer and gave it to waitress but was still charged the higher price. (2) Was told we were getting nigiri sushi by the waitress and then she apologised when only the maki rolls came out. (3) Putting a limit on one very popular item does not an all you can eat make. Also they were clearly frozen as when I asked the chef about making prawn head chips he looked at me blankly and said we don't get prawns with heads. (4) None of the customers complained (no one is game to these days it is up to the business) they just progressively left due to nothing being said to the noisy guy.
Response from Management:
(1) Special offer listed here $ 24.80, if you don't print this offer or let staffs know, $26.80 will be charged. (Please see how to get special offer)
(2) This meal entrees listed is Sushi or Tempura, (not and) so you won't get both some time, as fresh made sushi (maki) some time run out!! No nigiri sushi on this meal (ever), so wasabi wasn't accompanied.
(3) Prawns limited 2 pc, sorry that is only item limited, you still have 9 main course to choose again!! And the prawns are same as teppanyaki prawns. Please understand 10 courses to cook; we peeled head and tails in kitchen.
(4) Any thing if not as you expected or any problem, please let us know on the spot, we are happy to work out for you, such special price. Tempura maki or nigiri even food taste (chef cooked on hot plate, just tell him), if you were not happy with other customers making noisy, just tell staffs to advise them. We won't act if no other customer complains. As all of customers dining for entertain and relaxing.
Update response:
(1) When you gave printed offer price, if waitress charged normal price. Then I did apologise for that mistake. But doesn't mean special price gone up, you may show her when you got bill and ask her, if you did printed that offer.
(2)Nigiri sushi never serve on this meal, I apologise again , the waitress might be new to here.
(3)Prawn peel on kitchen and cut head and sandline so no prawn leg chip on grill. Prawns are fresh whole prawn! We guarantee.
Went here for dinner the other night and had the best time! Our chef (Ben) was hilarious and very entertaining!! We had the set menus, one mixed and one sea food, we were impressed with the amount of food we got. It just kept coming and coming. The staff is very attentive with drinks and refills, it’s BYO so we could bring our own wine I thought would complement the food.
The only negative thing was that we had to run to catch a show we were going to watch later on, so we missed the fried ice cream. But that was our fault for not giving ourselves enough time for the dinner.
Like many say, you shouldn't be in a hurry here, and that's a good thing! The amount of entertainment from the chef and the great quality of the food makes you really want to take your time so you can enjoy it!
Response from Management:
Thanks N_J
If full table of customers order different food, it could be painfully slow.(chef one time only can cook one item), so if you are in a hurry, or you like served slowly , just let your chef know, then you can enjoy fried ice cream and catch that show on time.
I have been here 3 times now. Its always on option for lunch if you are not in a hurry. I have had better Teppan but for a local eatery its acceptable.
Response from Management:
Dear customers, from April lunch will close. but if you give us a call, we will open for you!!
Finally a top notch Japanese Tepanyaki around Sydney. For the quality of food they served up, I was surprised that it was so cheap. Like the previous review, I particularly enjoyed the squid. For a moment I thought the chef brought up the wrong order and brought me abalone.
The restaurant is quite spacious and the atmosphere seems quite lively mainly due to the fun and friendly staffs. If you are game, ask the chef if you can catch some eggs with your mouth. If you are extra adventurous, ask the Mrs to catch.
Overall, a wonderful experience. Will definitely return with friends.
Had a enjoyable night out at Showchef Teppanyaki! The service was great, we were greeted warmly the moment we walked in and the waitresses were really attentive. We enjoyed a lively atmosphere throughout the night. I was also impressed by the minimal amount of smoke here for a teppanyaki restaurant.
I would like to send my compliments to the chef, the food was sensational and absolutely outstanding!! Thank you for entertaining us the whole night and I do look forward to dining here again in the near future.
Of all the teppanyaki restaurants I've been to, this one is my favourite! The food was absolutely delicious and the chef/waiters were really fun and friendly. I really loved the calamari and the prawns. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for great food and a great night out!
I have been to many teppanyaki restaurants, this is so far the best. Chef was fantastic!! The food is excellent and the service is very good. Wagyu beef, scallops and overall food was very delicious, especially wagyu beef that melts in your mouth. It was perfect . Would definitely go back here.
