Went here for a mate's birthday. We were a large group of around 15 people. Our table wasn't ready and the very tired waitstaff were annoyed at us for some strange reason. Great atmosphere, we all really got into all the action! eggs being thrown, rice being caught in bowls, it was really fun! Food wasn't oily and had a good combo of seafood and chicken. Don't dress to the 9's if you plan on going out afterwards because you'll probably be covered in rice and egg! I'll most certainly be going back here.
I was here on Saturday night for a 21st B'day dinner with my family (who travelled up from country NSW). We had to call and advise that we would be half an hour late after booking for 6:30, which the staff weren't impressed by but were incredibly gracious about.
Our chef was Toyota, inspiring many car-based jests from my Dad, all borne with good humour. We had a basic Set 1 with extra baby occies and we were full as boots. The upstairs room - while sparse and spartan - lent itself to the food-throwing and was a lovely private space for our little group. Toyota answered all of my mum's questions about the cooking flavours and styles in full and endured my father's "dad jokes" with good graces.
The occies and teriyaki chicken were the stars of the night, just delicious. The waitresses were efficient and looked a little tired (who wouldn't be after looking after our rowdy bunch?!). A big thank you to the staff at Showchef for a beautiful evening, we'll be back for sure!
Awesome food, never eaten seafood until I went here. Calamari, prawns, steak and fried rice was awesome.
40 bucks per person which I think is ok. We had the chef with glasses and he was very good. would definately go back
I am a regular of this place. I always have course menu as it gives you an opportunity to taste the variety. However, I was disappointed at the quality of the food at my last visit. The chef who served us must have been new or not a teppanyaki expert. However, if you get a proper chef (one with glasses), you will definitely get an excellent food. (Especially, the steak and calamari.) Don’t think $35 per person is expensive as if you go to the Rocks Teppanyaki you will need to pay around $90 for the same food. Overall, this place offers fine food at rather cheap price.
We went there on a friday night in August for my 20th birthday and we had a great night! It was the first time at teppanyaki for most people in our party. The waitresses were friendly and gracious. We had organised to have the set combination menu, a lot of food, very filling. The main difference between the set combination menu and the set standard menu was the steak, which was tender and delicious, and the sushi/sashimi entree, without which there is only a lettuce salad and miso.
The amount and quality of food is well worth the (approx) $35/pp. Throughout the dinner our chef kept us laughing and entertained (and also the people on the street and fellow diners) with the egg, rice and omelette throwing. Most of our party ended up with food on them (don't wear anything that will stain easily and mind your leather handbags) but the waitresses were very quick to clean up the mess. Some of the people in our party found the food to be a bit too salty.
It is a restaurant on a tight schedule and is not a place to linger after your food has been cooked (could be because it was a friday night). However, this suited us perfectly as a few went home while the rest of us continued down Oxford St.
It was my first time at Teppanyaki and judging from the reviews, I decided to have it at Show Chef's. I am pleased to say that was not disappointed at all. It was a quiet sunday night and we were the only guests there. Chef Ben did the honours of cooking for us. He was timid in the beginning but as the night went on, he was very entertaining.
Did a few tricks with the salt and pepper and cracked a few light jokes. Then the exciting bit came; the food throwing. But a warning to all, prepared to get food all over you. I wasn't aware of this and one of my friend, a short tempered one, wasn't too pleased at all having fried rice all over him.
The food was delicious, as expected from a highly praised restaurant. We had the combination set-menu and do yourself a favour and swap the tenderloin steak to wagyu. You won't regret it. I believe the price is reasonably set as you will get fresh food cooked infront of you, light entertainment, and it's definitely an unique experience. I will definitely come again, but this time, will prepare all my guests of the "deadly" flying rice.
Note: we placed our orders before 6:30 and asked the waitress of the 15% but she had no clue about it. So make sure you print out the page if you want a discount.
We had a teppanyaki night on Saturday in this restaurant. It was for mum's birthday and first time that mum had teppanyaki. She enjoyed it very much. Food was very nice. Service was good. However, we were not able to order Asahi beer together with the food because restaurant is not fully licensed. What a shame.
Nice and homelike environment. Chef looked a bit too serious ( not sure if because of the language barrier or something else...) at the very beginning, melted later when performing flying rice and jumping eggs, it would be perfect if Chef could give out some introduction to the food when cooking.
Or maybe, if possible, history about teppanyaki, or maybe Japanese food culture. Price is reasonable. Suggest that restaurant upgrade the class because it has a lot of potentials. Overall, we had a great night. Including my 2.5-year-old. We will go back definitely.
This is the best and best value for money teppanyaki I've been to. Amazing. for just 25 bucks you get teppanyaki all-you-can-eat middle of the week. The service is great, chefs are very friendly and the food is yummilicious. Highly recommended. Will definitely be back.
Myself and 4 friends ate here last night, 18 June, because of the 'all you can eat' special found on eatability. When we arrived we were a little sceptical because it is a tiny restaurant (so make sure to book) and not much decor. We were sat with another group surrounding the hot plate and were served a basic salad and 3 bite size pieces for entree. Then the cooking began.....
The prawns were definitely NOT frozen as per EDI's comment. The skills the chef used to de-shell on the hot plate was amazing, the taste, sensational! Then came the calamari, soft, tender and delicious. The dishes kept coming and coming, everything was so good!!
At the end of all the dishes, the chef asked which ones we would like more of but we could not fit another bite in!
I would highly recommend this place for the quality, taste and value for money. It is only small.....2 hot plates which seat about 10 people on each, so make sure to book and it is BYO, so bring a couple of bottles of wine.
In regards to EDI's comment about her husband not being able to eat chilli.....she should have told the chef. One of the men at our hot plate table was highly allergic to seafood, so they specially cooked his food on a separate hot plate. Not hard, just speak up beforehand!
I highly recommend this place and will be bringing back more friends for some great food. DELICIOUS!
Response from Management:
Thanks,K_J !!
That's the point, chefs cook in front of you, if any one need any specially cook or taste, very easy, he just next to you !!
