Worst food ever tasted. Poorly cooked. What's worse is, the lady at the counter dropped some food onto the floor and quickly put it back into the dishes and served the poor customer who didn't realise what happened. Luckily another customer complained and she apologised. Be warned, there are plenty of better restaurants nearby.

Have to agree with the positive reviews. Service and the promptness of food being brought to the table is great. Need the photogenic menu again, no prob. Scope and variety of dishes are awesome. Food in my experience is generally of a consistently high quality and presents good value. BBQ eggplant and the salt and pepper tofu are great. Salt and pepper items are non-greasy, light in texture and a distinctive coating. I have had a chilli prawn dish with two many dried chillis and not enough flavour but otherwise my experiences have been satisfying.

I'm a local, and I think this is one of the best (and consistent) Chinese restaurants in the area. Though its been classed as an expensive restaurant, there is a range of things on the menu for every budget.

I'd recommend the steamed dumplings and sweet and sour soup noodles and in general everything on that page. When I come here for a casual dinner, I usually order these sorts of food and get away with $20 for 2 people. The cold dishes are also very good (if you're unfamiliar with Chinese food, the pig ears may look scary, but they really taste better than they appear!)

It's a very busy restaurant on weekends. Make a booking or go earlier, or on a weekday if you don't wish to wait.

Been coming here for years. Lunches are great value as mentioned by other reviewer. For dinner their fish in hotpots are something different to the usual chinese steamed fish. The No.1 dish of the world is great with little prawns and pits and pieces of vegetables on a bed of rice cakes that look like rice bubbles. The pork hock is always tender. Years ago you would have to line up to get in.

Now with more competition around, whilst the food is still of high standard it is easier to get a table. Oh the menu is set out like an old chinese novel, nicely bound and every dish is shown with pictures. So no seperate chinese menu wonderful, which is my pet hate.

One of the best Chinese restaurants around. Love the food, prices and the staff. We love that most of the patrons are Chinese but although we are not, we are treated especially well. The staff are very helpful. We travel 30 mins past all the local places to go there.

Service was bad, some of foods are all right but not worth to that value.

What's with the low overall rating? I've been here several times for lunch in the last few months and the experiences have been great. The food is nice, rice or noodle dishes. Especially the $7.80 lunch specials that provide you with a soft drink/milk tea too. Better value than the places around it. The ambience is also decent with tables spaced out a bit more. While some of the staff don't understand much English, a point of the finger to the item you want (or garbled Cantonese) will do the job.

I'm Chinese and this is my favourite restaurant in Hurstville. It's cleaner than most of other Chinese restaurants and the staff are more friendly. My favourite is the Hot and Sour Fresh Fish Hot Pot (I hope I get the right English name as I always order in Chinese). It costs about $32.80 if you ask for a barramundi and half of the times we go there we order this one. For two people we don't need to order any other dishes as this is big enough for us. We also love the cold dishes, like pig ears, sea weed, etc. They have some northern China flavour dishes which I like. And recently they have improved their menus so now we have more choices. Oh I almost forgot the noodles. They have a good selection of noodles which are quite northern China flavour and I love them. They are huge and I can never finish them so I normally have to share with my husband or take away the rest.

Good restaurant with friendly staff, we come here 3-4 times a month. Consistent quality and ingredients always fresh. Some of our favourite dishes are Drunken Chicken, served cold is delicious with white rice and Emerald Soup is also great, comes out steaming hot. There's a dish called No.1 Dish in the World which is basically square pieces of rice bubbles with vegetable and tomato sauce. Always ask to keep the sauce separate otherwise the rice bubble crisps become soggy quickly. Worth a try.

My favourite is the white sauce with egg crab. As crab is seasonal should only buy when in season. The sauce is fantastic as it mixed with the beautiful crab flavour. As far as I know this is the only place that cooks it this way. Keep the sauce afterwards as it's great with rice. (you can tell I like white rice hey?) Their dumplings are good as well. Various types are available, pan-fried, steamed and different meats or vegie. Where else can you go to taste Shanghai food without taking a plane to China. Certainly worth a visit if you're a Sydneysider. Recommended.

I'm surprised to see the good rating. I was there on Sunday night and didn't like it at all. Firstly, the food was disgusting. My mum cooks nicer food than the chef. We ordered the famous chili crab pot. The crabs were very underweight and the pot was filled up by dried chilis and peanuts. The waiter delivered the wrong food to our table a couple of times - so the boss/chef in his singlet came out from the kitchen and yelled at the waiter in front of us. I would definitely Not go there again nor recommend it to anyone.
