We had pasta and prawns for entree which was nice but nothing extraordinary. However the seafood main was overpriced $52 for what was a fish, prawns, calamari, and octopus and all of it was also overcooked. Serving of the mains (others had the scotch fillet) was on the large side. Service was fair to good.
Great food. I loved the crab and gnocchi dish that I had a few years ago here. Have been coming here regularly with my family and have never had a problem. Staff are fantastic, credit to the restaurant and family.
My partner and I are regulars at Sevardi - it's almost our second home. I cannot believe the reviews I have read about this restuarant. The reviewers that declare themselves foodies and then complain about their dishes, should clearly stay at home.
I think we may have been at Sevardi the night of the Party of 9. They were noisy and the children were not well behaved. If they are looking for a place to take their children and for a taste sensation clearly the restaurant nearby in Thornleigh with its children playground would be more to their enjoyment and satisfaction...
From the greeting at the door by Leonardo, to the professional wait staff (always polite), to the beautifully laid tables and a menu to die for - this is everything you could want from fine dining. We can never decide what to have but our favourite at the moment is the NZ Whitebait and the corn fed chicken. When it comes to dessert we can never get enough of the tiramisu and the gelato.
We are also happy to wait a reasonable time between courses - when we eat at Sevardi, we want to experience everything on the menu. Patrons that choose to to have a main meal and coffee are doing themselves a great injustice - why bother! This is a fantastic restuarant. Obviously, people are entitled to their own opinions, however, they have clearly got it wrong.
We chose to dine here last night (Saturday evening) to celebrate my father's birthday with a party of 9, including one well behaved 6 years old.
We were seated in a private room above the restaurant which was lit beautifully with candles and low overhead lighting. The arrival of our entrees, and mains, was staggered over 20 minutes intervals which is absolutely unacceptable when considering the price of the meals. On the arrival of the ‘third batch’ of entrees (35 minutes after the first two entrees were served) we were told that complaints from downstairs had been made about our 6 year old jumping around like an "elephant"! Our child had not moved from his chair! The noise was made by either the waitress, or the fact that the downstairs customers had to stomp up the stairs to go to the bathroom! This certainly set the tone for our evening to come.
The gnocchi special was average at best, served with a very average pesto sauce. Each tasteless seafood dish was not fresh, it was probably frozen, and their poor quality, salty prosciutto wrapped veal swam in a puddle of melted butter. Their potatoes were even overcooked. Their eye fillet steak with mushroom sauce was the only satisfying meal ordered by one wise member of our party.
Their tiramisu minors the taste of liqueur and forgoes the use of mascarpone to produce a very bland sponge and whipped cream dessert with sifted cocoa on top. What a contrast to the recent review of this restaurant in the Times paper which described this desert as 'rich, moist, and inexcusably indulgent'!
This restaurant's prices are on par with Otto's in Woolloomooloo, and yet their quality of food is below that of KFC. Furthermore, I have never in my life been charged the revolting $80 corkage fee* I was charged last night. I recommend this restaurant to no one, but maybe those devoid of tastebuds and children would find it average.
Family’s beware - when we made our reservation we asked the manager, Leonardo Abassi, if children were welcome and he said “Yes, Of course!” But as we left he told us contradictorily, that he does not want to serve families. What an appealing restaurant to the family dominated suburb of Beecroft!
Update: I received a call this evening from the owner of Sevardi, Antonio Abassi, disputing the corkage fee I have listed here - it is possible and more likely that we were charged around $50, not $80, but we can't be sure since we paid in cash and did not receive a receipt.
Response from Management:
When you dined at Sevardi about 3 weeks ago, not this last weekend, we gave you our private function room at no charge as it was for a special birthday. You said you only had one child, but when your father rang and spoke to Antonio he said there were 4 children (which maybe explains some of the noise from the upstairs room) the diners below had been complaining for a while about the noise above. Proscuitto is a salty meat as that is the way it prepared. Our Italian chef makes his Tiramisu the traditional way with liqueur and marscapone. The Times described this dessert perfectly.
We charge $3.00 per head corkage, your total corkage was $12.00, when you were given the bill to pay you maybe should have kept it.
You obviously have not been ot Otto's for a long time, as they are considerably more expensive than Sevardi.
When your father rang he told Antonio that he was very happy with the evening with the exception of the children being asked to be quieter, but you also have to be considerate of the diners below.
We have never turned families away from Sevardi and have never had any problems before
We would prefer diners, if they have a problem to talk to us at the time and maybe we can sort the problem out before it is blown all out of proportion.
Having read some of the reviews I was reluctant to go here but nonetheless we ventured there this evening...and although it does have a lovely atmosphere...Its way overpriced. We had the sole and at $37 it should have been perfect but it was dry ( probably overcooked ) and very ordinary. The entrees were OK but we will never go there again because there are many other Italian restaurants offering better value and better prepared meals.
After reading previous reviews I was apprehensive to eat at Sevardi however as a Beecroft local I decided to give it a try nonetheless. Pleasingly we experienced none of what was detailed below re service, and would happily recommend the restaurant to friends having had a wonderful night.
The food was outstanding, the service courteous, obliging and reactive and the atmosphere was lovely. It had an up market feel that was still friendly and warm - perfect for the village atmosphere of the suburb.
All my dining companions, including two true foodies were delighted with their meals. The menu was diverse yet small enough to capture your attention and the specials added greater depth to the already interesting offering - perfect!
My only criticism is that the restaurant is small (lovely for ambience) but the board floors make it very loud and it is quite difficult to hear if you are seated near a noisy group.
Sevardi is relatively expensive however, given the quality of the food it is still good value for money. As a side note they are also in the Entertainment Guide which is always nice!
We have been twice now-both times midweek, the service was incredibly warm and friendly, the food was great and we had a ball. Must be different staff to previous reviews. The tiramisu was to die for!
I am thinking that, perhaps, some people below are talking about a completely different restaurant! We have been dining at Sevardis for over 8 years and have always found the food fantastic, the atmosphere wonderful and the service personable and warm. It reminds us of being back in Italy and Leonardo and his well trained staff are always fantastic.
The food is of a high standard and is always delicious and after travelling around the world and to many fine dining establishments in Sydney it is still by far one of our favourites. Good portion sizes, excellent quality, keep up the great work guys!
I'm not from the area, but from the inner west, where Italian restaurants are in abundance and we found the "warm welcome" quite genuine by all the staff. The service and food were excellent. We had a wonderful night.
