Finalist in The Sunday Telegraph Metropolitan Awards for Excellence
Overview
Sea la vie is a stylish casual restaurant overlooking the stunning Dee Why Beach. We combine three essential ingedients - stylish comfortable atmosphere; with friendly local service; and menus that provide good, wholesome food, which includes only the freshest Australian produce.
Boasting the largest outdoor seating area on Dee Why Beach, Sea la vie is the perfect place to sit while sipping one of our specialty cocktails, enjoying a Seafood taster plate or indulging on one of our signature dishes, the Tasmanian salmon fillet or the mouth-watering 300g grain fed scotch fillet.
We are one of a few restaurants on the Northern Beaches who are finalists in the 2008 The Sunday Telegraph Metropolitan Awards for Excellence.
We encourage you to make your reservation now and treat yourself to a meal at one of the best restaurants on the Northern Beaches.
Went there last night for the second time and once again had the most gorgeous meal and my four family members raved about theirs also. The chicken Penne is to die for and my father who is always a fish and chip man couldn't get enough of the pork.
Ambience and service were first rate and our only complaint is that they are not open on Tuesday nights as we would frequent them more often! How on earth I am reading bad reviews regarding this place is beyond me, I'm a local and have sampled every single restaurant on that strip and these guys are right up there for best food, we'll be back and again and again.
I came across this restaurant while going for a drive along the northern beaches. I decided to eat there because they have that big banner outside announcing that they were a finalist in the Sunday Telegraph Metropolitan Awards for Excellence. "Excellence", how misleading! The food wasn't very good, the service as unattentive (bordering on rude). I don't need to go into details, because some of the previous reviews pretty much summarise the experience I had there.
Service: They have this bizarre system of serving people in the order they come in. While this seems nice in theory, it just doesn't work out in practice. When we were there, they kept pushing us to order, while refusing to take the order of the opposite table, who came in slightly after us. I have never seen something like that in any other restaurant. Apart from this, the service was a bit slow at times. The starter was quick, but the main took about an hour. I had to ask them twice for my glass of wine.
Location: Nice view of the beach. The only problem is the street between the beach and restaurant. So you are sitting right next to the cars driving through. I guess there are no restaurants right on the beach in Dee Why, so the location is good 'relative' to the other restaurants.
Ambiance: The inside of the restaurant is nicely done up. Outside, it's like an ordinary street cafe. But who would want to sit inside on a sunny day?
Food: The food is alright. Not bad, but certainly nothing special. The menu is fairly small. I'll rate it slightly below average. I'd say the restaurant next door is much better and they have outdoor seating too.
Went there for dinner last night. The food and service were first class. I had the Scotch fillet, it certainly was mouthwatering, a sensational piece of meat. My wife had the Seafood linguine - she savoured every mouth full, it certainly was fresh.
It was a busy night, everyone was seated outside, it was great experience. A great vibe with music in the background. Thanks to the two girls who attended to our section. A great job. Well done and thanks Sea la vie. We'll tell our friends.
We had pretty bad experience there. We went there feeling starving and were soon ready to order. The waitress told us she couldn't take our order yet because there were other tables ahead of us. My husband and I just looked at each other with disbelief. Then she walked away to our next table and asked if they were ready to order. Even they were not ready to order yet, she didn't come back to us.
We called another younger waitress and asked if we could order. She took our order. (If she said no, we would have left straight away.) When she turned around with our order, this first waitress stopped her right next to our table and blamed her for not following the queue. Then it was long long wait for our food. Entrée was all right, nothing special. Our main didn't arrive until an hour later.
The younger waitress came and apologised for the delay. I guess they were trying to correct the queue in the kitchen and ended up forgetting our order. Some other table who came after us had their meals and ready to go when our main finally came. When we tried to talk to the first waitress about the situation, she didn't even let us finish a sentence and kept interrupting by asking us if we wanted cracked pepper.
My husband's steak was smelly. The fish in my Linguine was fishy. Our appetite was completely spoiled. Neither of us could finish merely a third of the dish. And our wine did not show up at all. If this is one of the best restaurant on Northern Beaches, I would really feel sorry for the residents there.
Sea La vie serves the most tender and juicy scotch fillet steak of all we have had along the Dee Why Strip. Their chicken penne dish is also really tasty. They consistently serve fresh, good sized and value for money meals. The staff
