We had the hot and sour soup, which was quite good and very good portion sizes. Actually this was the standout dish that we had. The shredded chicken spicy salad was fine but didn't light my world on fire. The dumplings were very below par, typical of too many other dumpling places in the city, overcooked, underspiced and having a very odd yellow colour in the meat. Will come back but for the other dishes rather than the dumnplings.
I've been going to this restaruant for 12 years and it's still my favourite comfort food. It's the best place for dumplings and hand made noodles (stir fried and beef noodle soup). My friends and I eat here at least once a month, sometimes more. Their fried pepper pork is so so good.
The service is not always the best but I don't mind, the food is good enough to ignore that part. I miss the smiling old man though, I haven't seen him in a while.
Highly recommended!
Very nice dishes in simple (ie unattractive) decor. Good range of dumplings but for me the best dish is the lamb soup. Often get just a couple of soups for takeaway. Other dishes we've tried and liked are 'hot and sour cabbage' and 'fried chicken with onions' which are different to usual chinese (ie cantonese or chuchow). Their sweet and sour pork is a little fatty and different in taste but nice to try. Overall for value and simple northern chinese its a must try.
You come for the cheap, tasty food and quick service, not for a romantic night. My friends and I have a weekly dumpling ritual and as a result the staff always makes sure that we have a table, and are extra friendly. I love this place.
This place is great for a cheap good meal. The handmade noodles are great, as are the dumplings. The vegetarian dumplings had so much flavour! Be warned though, this place fills up quick.
This place is fantastic and so very cheap. Had dinner with 8 friends. We ordered various dishes to share and the bill was only $90. The noodles are the best and of course the dumplings - pork is best. The service is fast and friendly. It's a very busy little place with a modern interior. I don't like the mirrored walls very much though!
I went there during midweek, as it was only 1130 am, not many people there but the waitress as me to sit on the stool to face the wall, do I have to? Finally, she let me sit at a table just right next to the door, I would not want to argue with her. Just sit. Then I ordered dumplings with beef soup. The soup was alright, however, dumpling skin is too thick and it was over cooked so the minced meat has come out.
Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Cause when I left I saw a lot of business people ordering noodles, stired with minced pork, noodle dishes looks much better.
Went here recently for a mid week dinner. Overall a good experience, pretty good fried dumplings. The value is incredible, we shared a huge $9 bowl of soup and a $9 plate of dumplings between two, cheapest meal I've had for ages. Can understand why some people might think it's not good service but given the food and outstanding value does it really matter? I'll be back.
How do you describe the value in a restaurant where you are kind of embarrassed about how cheap it is? Ok, the girls range from nice to sour-faced but who cares. What you want to eat is 1. Salt and pepper chicken salad 2. spring pancake 3. Eggplant with tomato and capsicum and then whatever you fancy thereafter.
It's a top spot but tell all the jerks you know that it was awful. I suspect the negative reviews below came from nostalgic fans trying to make sure they always get a table.
