Overview
We are thrilled to announce that Scorpios Taverna has won the Most Outstanding Restaurant in the Innerwest award for 2008! Thank you to everyone for supporting Scorpios. Thank you to the sensational staff and to everyone who makes Scorpios Taverna unique and special!
We are so very proud of Scorpios and love doing what we do. We will continue bringing you a winning menu which embodies Greek tradition filled with fresh flavours from the mediterranean. Thank you again and we hope to see you all soon!
A really nice family night out with filling greek flavours. All the good greek favourites are here, saganaki prawns (the highlight), BBQ octopus (good flavour but tough), meatballs (tasty but falling apart), kebabs (as expected), salads, dips, and fantastic aniseed bread. Baclava crushed with pistachio ice cream for dessert balanced with a sludgy greek coffee made for a perfect ending.
The decor has aged black and white photos scanned onto big canvases interspersed with slate tiles and textured stucco walls holding greek memorabilia (worry beads, wine barrels and spartan helmets). We even had live bouzouki playing. Good for groups. Would definitely be back.
Really fun night (mid winter), but staff were very friendly and prompt, food was varied and tasty and the quality inhouse band made the packed house enjoy the evening. Go back for sure.
Coming from a Greek family I am very critical when I go out and eat Greek food but I was very impressed with everything this restaurant had to offer. The food was authentic, fresh and good value. (We had the moussaka, Lamb and the halloumi, which was delicious) Mary the co-owner was friendly and attentive yet gave us our privacy too. The recent refurbishments have done wonders to the restaurant's look. Definitely recommend.
As a so called "Trendy Annandale Local" (refer antoine67) I can only say Scorpio's produces the most consistent quality food of any restaurant in the inner west, the service is great and the entertainment on Friday and Saturdays is a treat.
If you are looking for a great night out that won't disappoint then Scorpio's is the restaurant. Alternatively Singapore Airlines flies daily to Athens.....
This place is wonderful, food is just lovely, (try the lamb) service is fantastic and reasonably priced. Ive eaten at a couple of Greek restaurants in the city that have been there for years and are considered the best in sydney.
Scorpios is way better!!!
A few years ago I came here and they had fishing nets on the ceiling and dusty 1970's travel posters of Greece on the wall. The food was as tired as the decorations! The recent make-over was much needed and the place now has a good buzz. Food was good, wine very reasonable and the service was excellent, friendly and efficient (considering the place was packed out). Reasonable options for vegetarians too. Will be coming back.
The only Greek restaurant on Johnston St and the only one you need. This has to be the best Greek restaurant I've been to. The service was fantastic from whom must of been the mother of a family owned business. Friendly, personable with a great sense of humour. It was so hard to decide as everything on the menu looked divine.
My suggestion is to order and try as many mezze entrees as possible, definitely try the bbq octopus salad and then share a few mains, including the slow roasted lamb. Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious. The wine list was pretty good and reasonably priced. Scorpios Taverna was recommended to us and now we'd recommend to our friends and go back and try the dishes we missed.
Ok, so it's in Annandale and has to pander to the likes of the trendy locals, but it didn't have to deny its culinary heritage. At best, you'd describe this as a Greek style restaurant. It has the white stucco walls and arches and photo connection, but the food is a real let down. We shared entrees of grilled occi ($15) and filo triangles ($8). The occi while marinated in red wine and herbs had potential, it was pan fried instead of being char grilled and just didn't impress.
The triangles were like a supermarket brand I bought once, the filo was crispy but the mush inside was a disgrace. Mains my lady had the lamb cutlets ($22) and I, the slow roasted lamb ($25). They were accommodating swapping the tired casseroled potatoes for mash and red wine jus. Both meals were OK, and while mine was generous in size, wasn't a scratch on Mylos's slow roasted lamb shank.
The crowning disappointment was this is not BYO, so we put our bottle away and had a Greek (Shiraz style) red @ $30. Service was a bit hit and miss, they were either over or under attentive. It's not hard to find a proper Greek restaurant in Sydney, so go look elsewhere.
