Having eaten at many other Sydney seafood restaurants, I have always been disappointed with not only the quality of the seafood, but the chef's ability to cook it properly. Most deem it necessary to cook everything from the ocean to the point where it is bland and rubbery. Not The Sardine Room.

I chose the salt and pepper calamari to start followed by the whole barramundi, and found them both to be amazingly well cooked and full of flavour. Everyone else at the table (party of 6) was similarly impressed with their choices, with not a single complaint to be heard the entire evening. We even ordered a second Vietnamese side salad after we devoured the first one in a matter of seconds.

The setting is great, with Potts Point providing plenty for the people watchers, and the size and open front reducing the usual small restaurant din to a pleasant background hum. Our waitress for the night was attentive without being annoying, and was pleasant and chatty: exactly what you want from your server.

While on the slightly pricier side of things, it was by no means cripplingly expensive. I also liked the fact that all the dishes in each course are the same price: it makes things a lot easier when dividing up bills at the end of the night. BYO is also always a winner.

All in all I would highly recommend The Sardine Room. I certainly intend on going back.

A friend raved on and on about this place but we weren't impressed. Apparently the sardines are to die for but we must've ordered the wrong thing. The calamari was very average (have had much better in a chinese restaurants) and the curry for main tasted like sugar with a spoon of curry powder. The Barramundi dish was nicely cooked but the salad it was on was nothing innovative. Perhaps, best to stick to the sardines. Didn't find it great value for money.

I would give the food and service between a 6 and 7 out of 10. The food was good, nothing exceptional. My experience at the Sardine Room makes me question the authenticity of many of the reviews on this restaurant.

I booked a table before dining and was seated in location far lesser in desirability to those who chose to walk in without a reservation. The service was pleasant although not particularly professional.

Hesitate to report on how great this place is in case things change. Takes bookings, BYO, fabulous service by the owner and excellent food (the squid ink ravioli - excellent!). Oh, and not too loud.

I recently had my first experience at the sardine room; Wow! The food was incredible and we had excellent service. The owner is so friendly and professional and made our night so special. I am still dreaming about the squid ink ravioli. This little place is a gem and definitely my favourite eatery in Sydney. Highly recommend!

Friend of a friend recommended this place and it did not disappoint.
Service was great, friendly and carefully and clearly explained the dishes and recommended the specialties. When the food came it was wonderful. Fresh and cooked perfectly, with enough to be happily full but not stuffed.

As it was a school night(Thursday) we were there by 7pm which was good as the place was packed by 8.30pm with late diners. Space is limited in the restaurant (especially with a neighbouring table having 2 prams) but then it is called the Sardine Room.

Will definitely be back to this hidden gem and will recommend to my friends as well.

We had a shocker. It was disorganised chaos. We didn't get our table booked for 8.30 until 9.30. My food was cold. Waiters arguing. At least the entrees were good even though the oysters were warm.

Yum! This little seafood bistro is beautiful, great food and great staff. It was great to see the owner working as hard as the staff! The food was amazing and very tasty, well worth the trip from Manly to Potts point. If you like seafood, you will love this place. 10 out of 10 from us! Looking forward to going back, the next time where in the city. Keep up the good work!
