Overview
Sanders was founded in 1994 by Matthew Filson and soon became an icon of the Inner West of Sydney for fine dining. In Mar 08 a fresh new change came into Sanders along with new owners to carry on the legacy.
Sanders specialises in fresh home grown Modern Australian delights. We prepare everything in house right down to Lorenzos famous sourdough bread and we cater for all taste buds whether it be seafood, red or white meat.
Everyone gets to enjoy the views as Sanders as we have 270 degree unobstructed water views up and down Sydney Harbour. "There is no such thing as a good table at Sanders - as they are all great"
What is also unique is that you can moor your own boat for FREE at Sanders or for $5 you can catch the River Cat from Circular Quay or Parramatta. All the details and timetables are on our web site.
Functions are our specialty so if you are planning a special day for 12 or more people do not hesitate to contact Grant on 0411 33 33 11.
As a guide Sanders is only 10km from the CBD of Sydney or Parramatta and as a central meeting point for your guests we are ideally located.
We are fully licenced however we accept BYO wine only (cond Apply)
I was flabbergasted to see the bad reviews that Sanders has attracted recently. I've eaten there on three previous occasions over the last couple of years, and always found the experience wonderful and unbelievably good value for money.
I took my mum there for her birthday last year and everything just fell into place. I'm not put off by most of these bad reviews because I've seen similar "sabotage" on eatibility of other good restaurants in my area from what would appear to be competitors (who only ever make a single review!!). Anyway, I'm booking it again soon for a small group booking so stay posted for my comments to clear it up!
Despite the comments below we found the food very good. We had booked on a night there was a large group attending, which slowed the service slightly. Like most watersedge restaurants the view is less spectacular at night although the passing river traffic is interesting.
We decided to try Sanders last week; however this restaurant is probably the worst place I have eaten in years. I am only sorry I didn't check out the reviews and save myself the money (boy is it over-priced). I couldn't eat either my main course or dessert as the main was burnt and bland and the dessert had stale rice bubbles coated in cooking chocolate over what had been re-frozen cheap supermarket ice-cream.
I will not go back, nor could I recommend this to anyone. Incidentally we complained and were told that they had never had a complaint before, now I see a website full of complaints! Not good enough.
Please Note: This is a genuine review from a disgruntled customer. I can only assure everyone that I genuinely ate the food and this was my honest opinion. I object to the management of Sanders implying otherwise.
Response from Management:
As the owner of SWR we have tried in vain for Eatability to scan feedback like this for Smear campaigns.
Please do not beleive what you read as in the past month we have been barraged with people putting extremely bad feedback up on Eatability.
I noticed that within 24 hours of putting up this response the "customer" changed their feedback saying they are genuine. You must ask yourself why would you read an old review you wrote, not attempt to talk to the owners to discuss and then re write your comments sledging us even more.........
To top if off all of this so called critics have only just registered and have left only one feedback. I will give everyone this one promise. If you are not 100% I will refund your money in full. Please come and enjoy our success and anyone who feels it is not up to scratch ask to see the owner straight away. Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you soon
PS - Please page down to see all the genuine good things people are saying as we reaslly do deliver a great product, even if some people wish we didnt!!!!
Don't let the negative reviews put you off, this is a wonderful restaurant. Great food /location/service. The only let down was on the evening we dined, there was a function on for about 40 people which we were not made aware of, being a small restaurant, it really spoiled the ambience for what was meant to be a romantic dinner for two.
That said, I will definitely return. Take advantage of the Winter Idulgence special that's on at the moment ,3 courses for only $45.00 Is there better value for a waterside restaurant in Sydney? - I think not !
I visited Sanders Restaurant last week for the first time since hearing new owners have taken over, however I am sorry to say the food is as appalling as it was prior to new management. I tried the entree of calamari which was just passable, however the mains had produce which had clearly been frozen and were as such tasteless. Dessert was unidentifiable and we couldn't drink the coffee. At around $90 for 2 (only one dessert and 1 entree with 2 mains) it was incredibly disappointing.
I am very sorry to have to report this, as I had high hopes due to the fantastic location. Also why cover up the wooden floorboards with carpeting? (Always a highlight previously, as you could see the water through them as you were eating).
Guys, you have so much to work with, yet your food lets you down so horribly.
Also I have noticed the defensive responses from management for every negative review. Instead of just refuting all of these constructive criticisms, surely you might begin to think that there might be some room for improvements. Not recommended.

As the owner of SWR we have tried in vain for Eatability to scan feedback like this for Smear campaigns. Please do not beleive what you read as in the past month we have been barraged with people putting extremely bad feedback up on Eatability. One would imagine a stuggling competitior or an unhappy employee.
A classic sign of the incorrect nature is claiming that the food was frozen and the calamari just passable. Lorenzo's calamari is our No 1 selling entree and function dish. To sum it up it is stunning and if I were a competitior I too would be a little upset about us covering the wind tunnel our old open floorboards created. As it stands we now have a lovely winter room tempreature of 22 degrees and suprise suprise most weekends we are now booked out where last year it was empty.!!!

Visited last month for a family birthday. Had seen the average reviews, but the restaurant came recommended by friends and colleagues. Should have known that it was not going to be a great venue from the time we walked in and had our table pointed out to us rather than shown to it.
Food disappointing, minimal service (eg. coming back quite some time after ordering to say one of the dishes was not on the menu, and leaving the empty serving plates for the breads on the table throughout the meal) we had was by staff who really came across that they would rather be somewhere else (and it wasn't busy, probably 5 tables were being patronised).
Pricey corkage, which we accepted, but not happy to pay it for the two teenagers who didn't drink any alcohol (staff unhappy about this when challenged). Word of warning if you are thinking of using the Entertainment Book card, I think they would rather you didn't, just the vibe I got when I handed it over. If establishments don't want people to use them, don't go in the book. Great spot, but the total experience was a let down for the overall ambience. Couldn't recommend.
Response from Management:
Thanks for the feedback. Finally a respnse that can help us make SWR better. We are sorry that after your friends refrred you on and that your experience was not up to scratch. It you wish to contact us more for further clarification on the issues we are happy to see what we can do to rectify the issue. In relation to corkage I agree we are a little steep however at least you can bring wine for a la carte dining. Please look thru your entertainment book and see another quality restaurant who will do the same. I know it is hard to understand however bringing your own wine, and pulling out an entertainment card doesnt exactly help in keeping our doors open. We love the business from Entertainment card however most people use it once, under order, bring their own wine and book on a night when we are generally booked out. Hopefully this gives you an insight into how our frustrations are with the system.
Very disappointed. A seafood restaurant where the majority of selections are not seafood!! Restaurant prices for kiosk fare.
Response from Management:
Thanks Frank for the feedback however we are not a Seafood Restaurant hence the name Sanders Waterfront Restaurant. We tried it and failed as too many people do not like seafood. We specialise in Modern Australian Food and I think we do it very well especially as we throw in stunning water views at no charge.
