Ok, been to Saigon many times before and after renovated also they changed the owner as well. My fav dishes are salt and pepper squid and pork clay pot. They are good but not as great as it used to be. Squid dish is not buttery and peppery enough. Pork is lack of flavour a bit. Moreover, it takes about 15-20 minutes between the first and second dish to arrive.
The service is ok, love the new dec oh but missing the smiley paintings (they moved them down close to the bathroom!).
We were enticed in by the warm, stylish interior on a wet miserable night. First impressions were good and menu looked interesting. Were sat near front door, which kept blowing open.
Service was slow, and we had to ask a few times for water. Ordered mussel dish from specials board, very disappointing (fried and rubbery). Main was supposed to be salmon claypot but it was obviously fried first and was hard and dry. Coffee was provide free but was terrible. Won't return!
Went here on Friday the 5th June. Haven't been there for a while and the new renovations were great. The red makes the room feel so warm and the ambience has definitely gone up.
Food was lovely, will admit that one of the 5 dishes we ordered came out a little 'cool' and not piping hot, however, all other meals were tasty and reasonable proportions. Service was impeccable. Very friendly and big smiles all round. Was always someone standing at ready to serve if you needed their assistance. Vast improvement. Would definitely go again as I have before!
I enjoy eating here because I like Vietnamese food and these guys do a great menu. I have always enjoyed the décor and their 2009 refurbishments enhance it even more. The service can be a bit hit and miss, tho. Great food and good value for money, too.
The good reviews for this place baffle me, have you people eaten at any other Vietnamese in Sydney? The food itself was mediocre to ok, but the portion size was miserable beyond belief. The claypot pork was literally four spoonfuls of unremarkable caramel pork (why it's a "chef speciality" is beyond me), the duck salad was all carrot and even the rice was stingy (not to mention full of hard, old lumps of gluey rice).
The service was ok, but the waiter forgot our water after we asked twice and then frowned when we didn't leave a tip. The only thing that really impressed me was the lemon soda, which was lovely. The atmosphere is nice enough but unremarkable. Really, it's just the value that appalls me, $20 mains should be far, far better than this. I'm sorry, but when there are mum-and-dad Vietnamese places in Sydney where the food is twice as good and costs, like, $8, I have no idea why anyone eats here.
Probably the best Vietnamese restaurant on Glebe Point Road. I've only had good service here. BYO is a bonus. They're currently renovating so I'm looking forward to checking out the new-look in '09.
Ordered entree and 2 mains. Waited over 1 hour for one to arrive. Asked the waiter 3 times when the next meal was expected only to be told 'very soon'. Below average Vietnamese and not super cheap. Left without the second main as had a movie to attend. Won't be going back.
Despite the scary painting of the freakily smiling people adorning one wall, we quite liked the atmosphere of this little place. Food came in big portions and the menu is quirkily funny. The food was good, not the best I've had but not as poor as some of the other experiences reported here. Service was also fine though there were only 3 or 4 other tables occupied.
We love this restaurant. It has always been a favourite. We travel across the city to eat here. I can't believe that anyone has bad service as we always find it very attentive.
