Overview
Saigon Bay Vietnamese Restaurant had located at 249 Oxford Street Darlinghurst since 1993. Darlinghurst is known as the heart of Sydney’s gay scene and the home of the Mardi Gras, this area is best known for its clubs, pubs & restaurants, one of the best place for most people hang out with their friends after work.
Saigon Bay offers authentic Vietnamese Cuisine in the warm friendly atmostphere, the restaurant had operated since 1993 and serves foods to a lot of happy returning customers. Vietnamese food has long been appreciated in France, the former colonial power, U.S. residents are only beginning to discover its many fine features.
Our Vietnamese chefs like to refer to our cooking as "the nouvelle cuisine of Asia." And indeed, with the heavy reliance on rice, wheat and legumes, abundance of fresh herbs and vegetables, minimal use of oil, and treatment of meat as a condiment rather than a main course, Vietnamese food has to be among the healthiest on the planet.

Visiting Sydney and called based on the great reviews. Probably one of the best value meals myself and partner have had in years. The menu is extensive, if actually a little too busy, but this seems to be the norm with this cuisine. We were certainly not disappointed with any of our selections. On the night only negative was that the service was a little tardy at times, but nothing to get too fussed over. For a great value night out, this place is a winner.
This eatery has lasted on Oxford Street and with good reasons. I love the pancake and because of this restaurant I now enjoy fried whole fish! Granted the decor and loos could do with an upgrade, but with low prices and immaculate service, this is a superb cheap eat.
You can't beat Saigon Bay for crispy pancake (trust me I've done the Vietnamese rounds). Perfectly fresh with crispy sprouts in the flavoursome filling, crisp but not overdone. Served with superfresh coriander and mint, pickled carrot and fresh cucumber wrapped DIY in a lettuce leaf with some sauce to top it off. Perfection. Oh and the rest of the food is pretty good too. Quick efficient service and a menu for all tastes. Trust me, have the pancake.
Was looking for Vietnamese places on site in area so we wouldn't have to walk far, rung this place looking for a certain dish, which they didn't have but offered a variety of other dishes on the phone that we could try! sold!!
Walked there in twenty minutes, the lady on the counter was great she remembered who I was and had organised a great seat for 2 for me and my girlfriend. Immaculate service as they came and ran through all the different meals and which are the best, got a great little entree which had chicken, veges and soup but they light the bowl and it cooks it in front of you, then wrap it with rice paper!! awesome!!
Then after that had beef chilli with coriander, great value, the little vietnamese lady was really cute but so efficient!! nice little setting, a little packed in, but what traditional vietnamese restaurant isn't!! great atmosphere, place was full but still managed to easily get a seat on arrival. I'm half vietnamese myself and eaten at alot of vietnamese places but this is by far one of the best!!! highly recommend!!!!
I've been going to Saigon Bay for years and rate it as the best Vietnamese place in Sydney. My favourite is Sizzling seafood that arrives on ironcast hotplate, delicious! The host is very nice and friendly. The place is always full (but they can always find a table for you) which is an indication of good quality food and great atmosphere. Never had any communicatoin problems, service is fast and efficient.
I love this place. The Camp fire chicken is always so delicious and a big crowd pleaser. Every time we come here we always enjoy our meal and the BYO is great. It's always no fuss, easy to get a table, enthusiastic service (despite the language barrier) and yum!
