Great little spot and gorgeous food! I was initially hesistant when my partner and I first visited as the restaurant was empty on a saturday evening. The location is probably a factor, but it assured we had attentive service and the chef ended up coming to speak with us as we suggested some modifications to our order (which were accommodated).
The prawns were amazing and the tanjine was lovely, and byo made it great value. Been back again for the bastilla (as per comment below: perhaps one needs to have a palate unscathed by cigarette smoking to appreciate gorgeous flavours as the bastilla has a delicate almond flavour) and agreed that upstairs is far too cold...best for a summer night in the courtyard. Looking forward to trying the Italian sister restaurant!
My partner and I dinned here last night and the experience was wonderful. We are fans of Moroccan food and frequent other Moroccan restaurants such as Kazbah in Balmain. If you are after Moroccan for dinner I would pick this place . We shared 2 tangines, one of chicken, and the other meatball for about $25 each. The meatball was true to description. It was lean and not greasy and it was spiced perfectly. The chicken was cooked to perfection. Not dry at all and the flavour was delish! We also had some Sahara Bread that was divine!
Although there were not many other diners in the restaurant, the service was attentive without crowding us and making us feel uncomfortable.
My only regret is that I did not have enough room for dessert! We were not able to eat all the food and the waiter kindly offered to wrap it up for us to take home which we happily did as it was just too good.
Please do not be put off going in if it looks quiet. It is a new restaurant starting out in the forum and that is the only reason it would not be a full house. Definitely not a reflection on the food as I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!
Food fresh and very hot in traditional Moroccan Tajine. Design full traditions Arabic color. Service was did by senior staff not very professional but very friendly.
I am not a big writer but I have been at this restaurant number of times. And I also been at their other restaurant and I enjoyed both of them. If you enjoy Moroccan food (like me) and if you want to see a bit of Moroccan culture then you will appreciate this restaurant. And I couldn't help myself not to write something regarding the last comment, because they touched my favorite dish Sahara feast, this is one the most delicious dishes that I`have tried and it's a chicken thighs in a Sahara souse which is very nice. Try it, it's is very very nice. And also I have a feeling that something shifty going on with the last comment. I don't believe that.
What on earth.... I read all the great reviews about this place and decided to check it out. We arrived at 6pm on a Friday night and the place was empty and cold. It must have been about 12degrees outside and it wasn't much warmer inside. I never once took my coat off during the entire meal. My friend had managed to wear 5 layers and she didn't even take off her scarf! So that's like 1/10 for the ambience.
We were served by a man who seemed friendly enough at first then service got worse. Maybe he wasn't happy with the amount we had ordered..who knows. He took our plates away without even asking if we had finished.
We ordered the Bastilla for our entree which cost $15.90 for one very small portion of puff pastry swimming in a pool of orange favoured/looking sauce. It tasted kind of strange. For the mains we ordered a Lamb Tagine $25.00 or so and a Sahara Feast which also cost $25.00 or so and a side of Cous Cous for $6.00 or so. The lamb wasn't so bad but you had to order a side as the lamb shanks didn't come with anything else.
The waiter suggested we order some cous cous. The side of cous cous was so small I could have had it in two-three mouthfuls had I had access to a spoon. The Sahara Feast was basically some chicken on top of what looked and tasted like curried rice. The chicken was undercooked, it was actually so pink it almost looked raw in some places. If it was Gordon Ramsey's restaurant, the kitchen staff would have been fired. Clearly, I had reason enough to give the food a 1.
Value for money? No. My glass of coke cost $3.50. Not so bad if it lasted more than 3 sips. The glass was like a 200ml glass at best which was filled to the brim with ice and then delicately laced with some coke. I have already mentioned the size of the cous cous side. I rest my case.
Not worth the time or the money. The only thing that made the night better was the Gelato and the cigarette we had after the dinner.
You must give it a go. Fantastic. You'll keep going back. It's great that there's a restaurant in the Forum that doesn't serve pasta. The food is amazing, service great. It was an authentic Moroccon restaurant. I can't tell you of just one dish that was good, all the ones that we ordered were just to die for.
We have been to Morocco twice and we can honestly say that this restaurant does authentic Moroccan cuisine. What a nice change to find a non-Italian restaurant in Leichhardt. Our entrees were fresh, light and extremely tasty and our tagines for mains were superb. There is a nice touch with the decor of a traditional glass lantern and a mint tea set when you enter. We'll be back!
I went here for a midweek meal with my partner & stumbled upon this absolutely superb Moroccan restaurant. I had a pastry dish filled with chicken & almond, topped with an orange blossom sauce & cinnamon. It was well balanced sweet and savoury. The bread beforehand, stuffed with olives with herbs & butter, was also lovely. My partner had a hearty chicken dish which was great as well.

Great food which is reasonably priced. Nice decor, terrific waiter (he was attentive but not hovering).
MINUS
They need to loose the TV with the Moroccan-pop ballad singers. Some nice instrumental music in the background would probably suit the acoustics of this cosy restaurant much better (it was a bit loud). Also the glasses they served the soft drinks in were tiny. They gave us bigger glasses towards the end because we were on to our third or fourth soft drink each.
