Ramen was good, especially the rich flavored soup base. We ordered two plates of gyoza, both came out burnt. Service I have to say has to be the worst Japanese restaurant ever. Staff shows no interest in you as a customer + poor attitude. Payment being inconvenient as they don't accept cards/eftpos.
Best Japanese noodles in Sydney by a long shot. The chicken and pork stocks are intense and full of flavour. Some other noodle places are good, but nothing like this. Worth lining up outside for 20 minutes.
Best ramen noodles in Sydney! I've been to menya, rahmen genki, ramen kan, etc. But this is definitely the best tonkatsu ramen, so full of flavour and the noodles have a real bounce to them. I'd also highly recommend the pork rice balls, so simple yet so delicious.
The staff are also very friendly, but it gets very busy here so you will need to wait outside sometimes as the restaurant itself is quite small and cramped. Well worth the trip and wait though, awesome noodles!
Ryo's is an icon. Ask anyone who has any idea of tonkotsu ramen and you will almost always hear "Ryo's is the best ramen in Sydney". They can do a reduced salt tonkotsu upon request. Just be prepared to line up outside and have passing motorists stare at you.
Great little local eatery, with authentic Japanese noodles and some delicious side dishes.
Food - lovely, hearty ramen dishes. The tonkatsu stock was delicious, and full of flavour. The serving portions appear to be quite small, but the ramen is very filling indeed. The noodles did lack meat, but the stock was very hearty. I tried the salt pork ramen, and my partner the chilli pork ramen. I much preferred the salt noodles, as the chilli noodles tasted much like the salt dish, but with lashings of chilli oil. I also had the plum rice ball, which was very tasty, although the plum centre was slightly too overpowering, and the rice would have benefited from more plum flavour.
Ambience - very homely feel, with staff acknowledging frequent dinners. The restaurant itself isn't one where you would stay for hours as the chairs aren't the most comfortable. But it is great for a meal on the run.
Service - Staff were attentive, but weren't extremely friendly and didn't go beyond seating customers and taking orders. They did well to get the people into seats and off the queue.
Value - Ramen was around $12, which is good value for authentic Japanese noodles. Not a restaurant I would travel far and beyond for, but definitely a jewel for locals.
Good noodles definitely one of the better places in Sydney for ramen. The place is small clean and very busy though the two times we went recently we were lucky not to have to wait for long. If you are a small party expect to table share. The gyoza and karaage are good but the noodles are a stand out. Having eating ramen many times in Japan they are authentic. The stocks have good favours and for my taste not overly salty. However, if you want to try the best ramen and the closest that I have ever tasted to the Japanese variety you must try others on Dixon st Haymarket. They are outstanding.
Ups and downs here I think. The food is super tasty, but portions are tiny (I mean noodle soup with plenty of noodles but 3 pieces of meat). The queues are just horrendous, we live very close to here and the line's always out the door, everynight. Try it just to see what all the fuss is about.
Hmm, so you have to queue like a muppet and they are rigorous at closing at 2 pm on the dot at lunch times. The guy with the facial hair rarely raises a smile as he calls you in when a table becomes free. The pork rice balls are tasty especially with lashings of kim chi. The karaage chicken is well seasoned and deep fried to perfection, all too easy eating several portions and then going falling into a greasy coma.
The special salmon noodle soup is tasty but the chilli noodles were basically swimming in inches of neon red oil, well unless you enjoy drinking flavoured oil. Do not for a moment think of ordering the japanese curry, a sloppy MSG intense gravy with not a single trace of beef, nor curry for that matter. Smile!
Probably the best Ramen I've had in Sydney. Whilst some might say the soup base is too salty, it felt right for me. Just fill up on the water from the dispenser if become too thirsty drinking all that salty soup. The only fault I can find with it is that it shuts too early. I've missed out on a meal here twice because I was too late. Once at lunch time and another time at night.
