The bistro has recently been taken over by a new crew and the food has improved heaps. The specials board was loaded with good winter warmers like shanks and osso bucco. We tried the shanks and they were great. The food prices are good, as are the drink prices. We loved the outdoor TAB area in the beer garden too. We will definitely be back!

Update: the boyfriend and I have been here a couple more times lately and still find it quite good. A couple of weeks ago, feeling a little peckish: we shared some tempura prawns and dip platter (both quote good) and last week we dropped in and had lunch: he had the steak sandwich and I had the burger, at $10 each served with chips, it was really good value.

The meals were cooked fresh and as ordered, tasted really sensational and arrived in a timely fashion. What more can one ask for? I have had some seriously dodgy burgers from other places lately and this place makes them consistently good, it's not hard to make a nice burger, these guys manage it very well, I especially like how they use caramelised onions, very yummy.

Review from Sep 07: I've eaten here several times over the last 4 years and it's always been good. Nothing stand-out, just well prepared, tasty food. The service has always been fast and friendly.I have not tried the tapas but have seen other tables having it and it looks good. I come here for a burger or for the salt and pepper squid. The bar staff at this pub have a good knoweldge of the wines they sell and there is a good selection of "by the glass" wines. It's a good pub with a good bistro and you can't ask for more from your local.

As soon as I walked into this hotel the décor was repulsing. The bar staff were extremely rude and they have no knowledge of wine what-so-ever. However, bistro food was amazing.

We went for a nice meal and drinks with our work friends and we had the best night, the service the food and the atmosphere was incredible we were treated like we were in a 5 star hotel, the staff are great and its a fun night out the locals are friendly thats our new local pub for friday night drinks for us and all our work occasions.

We had an early Sunday dinner, about 6 pm and plenty of seats available. Nice wines by the glass, friendly staff. We ordered 350g rump steak rare - delicious cooked as asked. Chicken parmigiana - very tasty. About $17 each is slightly pricey for the standard pub grub, but I noticed lunch specials for $10. Nothing stand out but probably the best pub food in that area. I'd go back.

I was hungry for a good steak but the rib eye had sold out by 6.30, decided to have the pork ribs which were more like chops in tomato sauce. The dressing on the salad was incredibly sweet and ruined the chips making them soggy and tangy. I wouldn't dine here again.

Visited recently. Renovations trendy. Sold out of one of the meal specials by 7:30. Ordered Thai beef salad and partner ordered steak meal. Definitely no Thai flavours and very uninteresting. Both meat dishes arrived overdue and meat cold (others who had ordered after us were served their meals before us). Very disappointing first impression. A shame because a local to us.

Really good value! The serves are huge and thus great value for money, what makes it better is that the food is actually good!

Go the tapas, they are delicious and can easily be compared to alot of the actually spanish places in Sydney, I was very pleasantly surprised with the Royal Exchange and will definitely go back!

Great pub & a big improvement on its previous life. Food is very well priced and the servings are huge. Tapas is a great option. Only draw back is the smoking out the back - especially when your stuck next to an indulgent twat with a cigar.

We had our engagement party as a private function in the Cactus Bar. We had about 60 people there. There's a great little private bar, inside area and garden with heating. We ordered finger food for our guests and it was reasonably priced, good quality and big servings. Parking is plentiful nearby. The staff are really helpful and obliging. We'd recomend it for anyone in the area looking for a venue for a party.
