We stopped by for dinner before a show at the Seymour Centre. They look like they've recently 'funkified' the place and made it shabby chic. Nice old pub feel in the old pub section and the beer garden was good. We didn't head upstairs to their cocktail bar (the Marmalade?). It has a good feel to it and a mixed crowd - uni students, older couples and young 30s professionals.
Friendly service but I felt a bit rushed when ordering as if I was a hindrance (done nicely however? is that possible?). The wait staff were really nice and friendly when they bought food out or cleared plates. Food selection appeared fairly good with a large pizza menu, the usual pub fare plus some nicer dishes.
I thought it was quite expensive at $19.50 for a chicken parmigiana with chips and a salad. It was good and large but not great for the price. $20 for something thrown in the fryer then covered in sauce, ham and cheese. Tasted good anyway. The marinated mushrooms as a side were large But they were cold. So disappointed on a cold night. They serve Montieths which I like.

If your menu says 12pm till late then you need to serve what your menu has on it even when the grill chef goes on a break. Late is not 8.30 on a Sunday evening.
If you can't even do fries then there is something wrong. Also $9.00 for a schooner of Peroni is a bit much.

Yummy pizzas but they're not filling enough for the money. They serve Montieths cider on tap which is delicious and upstairs is really nicely decorated.

The food here is OK - pizzas are good but they didn't have a very big menu due to renovations. I found the staff rude and unhelpful and have tried to find a new local as this place is not what it used to be.

Nothing special, an overrated place with way too pricy average food. Maybe can go for drinks only. Good garden though but you get smokes all the time, inside too small.

I used to love the Rose. Close to Sydney Uni and set back from the quite horrible Parramatta Road. They always have good beers and the occasional special, and the kitchen consistently put out good value meals.
However, they've gone downhill in the food area of late. Prices have gone up and quality, it appears, has nosedived. A bowl of wedges now costs $12.90, yet is the same small size, and the wedges are too big, with not enough seasoning. Essentially, you're paying about $30/kilo for boiled potatoes.
Pizzas are much better quality, but at an average of $20 for a 10", they are among the most expensive pizzas in Sydney (up there with the Oaks). The huge outdoor area is still a great afternoon hangout, although quite packed on Fridays. I'll continue to frequent the Rose after uni, but I won't be eating here again.

I always go to the Rose for a pre show (at the Seymour Centre) dinner or drinks. I wouldn't say the staff are great, but the food is pretty nice and the ambience in the courtyard is wonderful, but not when it's jammed packed.

Drinks are really overpriced, $4.90 for a schooner of mainstream beer is a blatant gouge. I suppose that's the price you have to pay for drinking at a now trendy pub in an ex-blue collar, former working class suburb. Large pizza for $20, a medium size in any other establishment, was enjoyable. Beware, the 'outdoor' smoking area is just a step up into the courtyard. If you're in the outdoor non-smoking restaurant, there can be a table in the outdoor smoking courtyard directly behind you, blowing all over your table from two feet away. Friendly and helpful bar staff.

The atmosphere is nice when it's not crammed full of students, but the pizzas while very delicious are very small considering that they cost $20 each. That's a huge cost for a pizza that feeds one person.

We found this place in January and have been there about 10 times now, whether its $10 lunch pizza or dinner at night the food is always fabulous. Love the lamb rump with tsatki salad and chips. The wine and beer menu is simply outstanding. I have never seen so much quality wine offereed by the glass. My husband adores the beer choices so many on tap plus boutique buys by the bottle. Highly recommend. Love you Rose.
