Like the green apples on tables al la sex and the city. Good Service, nice place to sit - although the tables are WAY TOO SMALL which makes things uncomfy. Food was average. Good if you like Campos Coffee (made well). All the kids there seemed to like the place. Very clean.
Went to Romana's for a casual lunch with 4 friends and their 6 year old. Darling Street was, of course, busy and we were handing around like vultures as this table prepared to leave. We asked for the table but the waitress look disappointed, we wanted it as ONE person wanted to sit there (who already had a table inside). We said the person could have the table, as they were waiting first (it was for a table of six) but the woman gave it to us as there were 5 of us.
Felt a bit bad but it was nice that the waitress was nice to all customers, not just the tables who would have a bigger bill. The menu was a typical cafe menu (burgers, sandwiches and pasta) but was really yummy and good value. My partner had the veggie burger, which was really yummy. I had the smoked salmon paoched egg and spinach on a bagel. That was okay, the bagel was really hard to cut and chewy, so I ended up eating all the ingredients separately.
Our friend's child had fish and chips, really nice crunchy, ample sized pieces of chips, not frozen food variety. The smoothies were also really good, I had a mango and my partner had a banana. Yummo! The waitress was really nice to my friend's child who is normally quite hyperactive and she was so well behaved at lunch, partly due to the attention the waitress was lavishing on her.
She also got a free marshmallow too (but the rest of us didn't, so that was,10 points for them, just kidding). Good casual lunch to soak in a busy day on darling street. Not sure if they're open for dinner but I would go elsewhere for dinner. But definite thumbs up for service, value and food for lunch.
I have been here for lunch twice now and on both occasions found the waitress rude and surly. This is my main gripe as the food and coffee were ok but with the abundance of cafes in Balmain, I will choose to spend my money elsewhere.
We just stumbled past and chose it randomly over so many other cafes on Darling Street last Saturday and were really blown away. The decor was relaxed and welcoming with a nice view of all the goings on of Balmain. I had the Romana breakfast which was huge! I particularly loved the tasty home made sausages. My friend had the green eggs and ham and we both loved the pesto mixed in with the scrambled eggs. The service was very prompt and efficient - no complaints there.
We will definitely be going back again to sample more of the menu.
