What a little gem this place is, delicious unusual Thai dishes eg salt n pepper soft shell crab with a green papaya style salad except using green apple which was an absolute winner as was the duck san choi bau, think Chinese style but with fresh Thai herbs, brilliant, really enjoyed all their offerings and it was reasonably priced, small inside but nice modern decor and great atmosphere.

We Decided to eat at Rock Mortar Thai last night after months of driving past. We ordered our meals with no problems. 1 serving of spring rolls and 2 noodle dishes with no egg. After we ate the spring rolls, the waiter asked if we were allergic to egg to which we said no we just don't like egg (I am vegetarian). A little while later another waitress came out and told us that the dishes we ordered had to have egg as the kitchen staff said the eggs go in the pan first, which is funny because no other Thai restaurant has ever said that to us before.

After talking to her for a while it was obvious that they were not going to cook these dishes without egg so we paid for our spring rolls and 2 drinks and left. We then sat in the car and ordered the exact same dishes with no egg as takeaway from a near by Thai restaurant with no problems. Its a shame really as the staff were really nice and the spring rolls were good, it was just the kitchen staff would not cook our meals without egg so we won't be going back.

Thank you for your honest feedback and patronage last Saturday night. I completely understand your frustration and apologise that the situation was not handled better.

You are correct in that all rice and noodle dishes can be made without egg. However, without the egg, the rice/noodles tend to stick to the wok and burn unless extra oil or water is added. In the past, we have used a non-stick pan to make these requests.

We always try our best to accommodate customer requests and would have happily cooked the dishes for you if it were not for the time pressure to clear the backlog of take-away orders. I regret that this was not communicated to you and you feel that your experience here was so awful that you would never come back.

The chef acknowledges your comments and it will definitely be a 'lesson learnt' for us. Thank you again for taking the time to review us.

We've been to this restaurant four times now and every time have thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is excellent Thai, the specials in particular are good and are a little more creative than most Thai restaurants. We had the whole schnapper which was great, and the special entrees are also particularly good.

My partner and I tried this place for the first time tonight and found that it certainly exceeded our expectations. Entrees and mains arrived ideally and service was satisfactory. Only downfall would be our waiters English speaking skills, but his efforts to try and answer our questions made up for that. Apart from that our experience was pleasant and we'll surely be eating there more often.

Really good value at this restaurant. BYO wine, 2 entrees, 2 mains and 2 dishes of steamed rice all for $41. The restaurant itself is quite nice internally. It is clean, feels modern and ample space between tables.

Our waitress was friendly and prompt despite appearing pretty busy with many patrons coming in to collect take away.

As for the food, the best dish on the night was the roasted duck salad. Delicious. The Tofu Tod was also very good and melted in the mouth. Only reason I gave the restaurant a 6 and not higher was the Massaman Beef Curry was not brilliant. The beef was really dry and chewy. Only real negative.

If you enjoyed our roast duck salad I'm sure you'll love our Herbed Duck starter. As for the Masaman curry, we have received several comments about the meat. We currently use quality topside beef but will pass your feedback to our Chef and perhaps try another cut of meat or change the cooking technique.

Came here and really enjoyed the food. The staff are genuinely friendly and the owner really seems to care about the customer's experience at Rock Mortar. The perfect host.

I am a frequent diner at Rock Mortar. Everything about it is great! I really enjoyed the green curry and the stick rice! Wait staff are kind and efficient looking forward to returning.

This place has great food at a great price. It's a bit noisy but the food compensates for that. We often go there as it's close to home but would make the trip if we had to.

2011 We've now eaten in a couple of times (in a group and as a couple) and enjoyed great dining experiences, some really interesting dishes and lovely flavours.

Previous: Rock Mortar has become a regular take-away for us, almost weekly. We haven't eaten in yet but plan to soon. The food is delicious and service friendly. Love the canvas bags the food is delivered in, nice touch.
