Dined here April 2008. Had the degustation menu - $95 (10 courses). Food was absolutely fantastic. Great variety, excellent presentation, delicious. Definitely worth the one chef's hat. One minor issue was the timing between some of the courses, a little too long and uneven (it was a full house).
Also, I probably would not have placed all the non-dessert cutlery out at the start of the meal (5 knives/5 forks). It made the table quite cramped and took away from the 'fine dining' feel, having all this metal lying around on the table. I stress though this was an extremely small point.
Overall experience was great. Will definitely go back and recommend to friends.
I don’t think you could find better value.
We went here for dinner for a birthday on Saturday night and it was brilliant. We had the degustation with matching wines, and thoroughly enjoyed each course. A lot of effort went into each of the 10 courses, lots of different ingredients used and beautiful presentation. Great service in a lovely renovated terrace house.
Unlike one of the previous reviewers, we enjoyed the 4 hours we were there, didn't feel that it was too slow, rather it gave us enough time to enjoy each course and wine, and not feel too full by the end of it. Ordered coffee which arrived with petite fours, once again beautifully presented. Entertainment card knocked $45 off the bill also. Would def recommend it for a special occasion and I can't wait to go back.
Went for dinner on Saturday 17th May. Got a table upstairs for 4 people. The service was slow, we also encountered one rude, impatient waiter. Food was overpriced. I ordered an entree that says "jamon iberico" but I could not even spot it! I saw more "white" on my plate. Dessert was quite good, though. My duck main was also yummy. Yes...they charged for bread!! Unbelievable. And we had to order side dishes, too!
I came here with group on a Friday night and we had the degustation menu. As I can't eat seafood they were kind enough to modify a couple of dishes for me. We were certainly not disappointed with the food here. The service, however, was extremely sluggish. There were 7 people in our group. We arrived just before 7 pm, ordered straight away and got out of there after 11 pm.
This late departure, I might add, was even after choosing to skip the final dish because we were sick if sitting around waiting for so long. While there were 10 dishes to get through, I don't think it should take over 4 hours to do so. Won't be returning in a big hurry.
Without doubt one of the best meals we have ever had. We had the degustation with matching wines, every course was wonderful with great wine matches. We really appreciated the work that had gone into each component of each dish. We will be back.
This place will go down in history as the restaurant that convinced my boyfriend that Brussel Sprouts are not, in fact, the work of the Devil! Warm and cozy, Restaurant Sojourn has a romantic atmosphere, a nice wine list and really good, delicious food. A great place for a nice meal with someone you love.
My husband and I came here with friends just before Easter weekend as we'd had some disappointing experiences at this end of the village recently. We were amazed at how pristine everything was without seeming too cold/stark. The service was exceptional from being seated to collecting the bill. The food, especially the mains was divine and worth the price tag.
This place wins hands down in terms of 'fine dining' in Balmain, for sure. The wine list, and more importantly the wait staff's knowledge of the wine list, is superb... highly recommend this; we're already looking at dates to come back!!
We came to Sojourn for my wife's birthday. The service was first class, the waitress looking after us was very attentive without being annoying, very knowledgeable. The food is divine and the waitress recommended a beautiful Italian Pino Bianca wine, which suited our meals perfectly. Highly recommended for a special occasion or any fine dining experience.
I went with my husband on a Friday night and it was full house. However the service was still very good and all the waiting staff worked with enthusiasm and smiles and pretty knowledgable with the menu.
The food were delicious, presented well and creative. We had the degustation menu and got to taste a good amount of everything in the restaurant and we will definitely go back and try our favourite dishes again! The environment was cosy and romantic as well if people at your next table do not talk too loud, ha!
