This place lives up to it's positive reviews! From the moment you enter the Japanese hospitality is both friendly and polite.

The food was really great, especially the sushi and sashimi and the highlight for us was the beer on tap, perfect temperature and very reasonably priced! We ordered the Toshiya style tempura and whilst it was nice at the beginning it became too much at the end, we will order the standard tempura or stick to the great sushi next time.

The service was just the right balance of attentive and not obtrusive. A great Japanese restaurant!

We went here after reading the reviews on this site. The Entrees were absolutely superb, the sushi sashimi combo was very nice but very small for the price and the Teriyaki Chicken was really bad. We spoke with others there who were really surprised as they have never had a bad meal but they said they had never had the chicken. We mentioned we did not like the chicken as we paid our bill after not eating the chicken and no credit was given which soured their service for the night.

Toshi used to be the Chef of Ainoya in Milson pt some years ago and I loved his food. My first dinner at Toshiya tonight. I ordered assorted entree for 2, tuna and avocado roll, mix tempura, tuna carpaccio, steam pinkling in foil and green tea cream brulee.

The assorted entree was quite good and allowed us to try different things. It has some sashmi, softshell crab, agedashi tofu, duck dumpling, beef tataki..they all very nice. The tuna carpaccio was good too, the sauce was very well balanced, not too sour as other restaurant. The steam pinkling fish fillet was highlight of the night. I like the way the fish fillet was cooked, just right, and the fish was fresh and didn't smell fishy at all. Green tea cream brulee came with black sesame ice-cream, another fantastic dish.

Overall it was a good experience. Good value when compared to other jap restaurant in the area. Service was good on a fully booked Saturday night. The only thing I can pick on is the restaurant can be abit noisy when full. I will go back for sure. Good one Toshi!

One of, if not the best Japanese restaurants in the Neutral Bay/ Cremorne area. Have been there more times than I can remember and each time the food is delicious and beautifully presented. The shared entree platters are amazing, as is the beef tataki, hihah rolls and sashimi tacos. Excellent value, and great work from the chef Toshi.

We have eaten at all the Japanese restaurants in the area and this is one of the best. The food is always of the highest quality and is elegantly presented by Toshi the Chef.

Some of our favourites are the Agedashi Sanshu (tofu and eggplant), Seared Salmon sushi, Seared Salmon and spicy leek inside roll, Shirauo no salmon, maki roll, Rainbow roll (salmon ,tuna, kingfish). Don't miss the chocolate filled spring rolls served with ice cream for dessert it is fantastic.

I just got home from dinner here and I couldn't wait to give this review! Awesome food - A grade, fresh ingredients and all beautifully presented. All the dishes were a hit! We ordered the sushi and sashimi combination - delicious! My favourite was the salmon belly and you MUST try the Abiri sushi. The staff were lovely and the food was perfect and at such good value. I can't wait to come back and sample the rest of their yummy menu!

Fantastic food! Very authentic dishes. Our two other friends shared an entree, which looked beautifully presented, and apparently tasted wonderful too.We shared two mains. With seating at capacity on Saturday night, the service was relaxed, friendly, and helpful. We ordered from the Specials. Definitely want to return.

My first thought after my first dining experience here was a ‘Congratulations to the owner and kitchen’.

Next was... ‘Thank you for showing the Australian public some Real Japanese food’.

I lived in Japan for 2 years and now travelling yearly for work, this was the first Japanese restaurant in Sydney that bought back memories. Clean, subtle, seasonal and fresh. The passion for food and quality is clearly shown through their daily blackboard menu of fresh fish, seasonal dishes and very own how homemade soya sauce!

The unlikely winner for me was the Sui Goyza (dumplings in a soup). (This is such a simple and wonderfully dish.... I mean really, I don’t understand why all other restaurants insist on frying everything). Anko (red bean) ice cream was also a treat to see on the menu.

For those who complained about service, you may need to consider that Japanese food is designed to be shared. Mains should be staggered. I guess a pointer for staff would be to explain this to the guests when ordering.

The only other Japanese restaurant comparable in the area is Jurin. Although Toshiya is much much more fairly priced. Thank you Toshiya. I wish you the most success.
