Where do I start! Entree of Prawns and Scallop overcooked and bland. Main of Ravioli filled with lobster tail was bitter and with no sign of baby spinach in the dish.
Though have to say my partner ordered the lamb backstrap which was cooked to perfection and the hommous was great. I have never seen such a dirty bathroom in what is supposed to be a top rated restaurant! Definitely won't be going back.
This is a good little restaurant in a pretty lousy location being on a main street accompanied by nothing really. Food is good and creative, service is OK.
We moved to Coogee recently and have started trying out the local restaurants, last night was Red Squirrel for our first wedding anniversary. This is a cute little restaurant with about 15 tables. We had one near the kitchen.
Tried the Squirrel Bites for starters, which is a selection of the starters to share for 2. The quail medallions were exceptional, one of the most delicious things I have eaten in a long time. Homous and artichoke in a vine leaf was also very good.
After such a great start we were looking forward to the mains, I ordered Pasta with scallops and porcini mushrooms, my wife ordered chicken. Unfortunately the mains were not good. The scallops were overcooked and chewy, my wife's chicken was burnt and the bitter burnt taste was immediately evident through the sauce. I don't know how they could possibly have missed this unless they don't taste the food before it goes out.
To cap it all there was a big hair mixed in with her food. Understandably she couldn't stomach a dessert after that, the waitress was apologetic and took the dish off the bill. I noticed none of the kitchen staff were wearing hats or hair nets.
Overall the restaurant was great, well decorated with a nice ambience and good service. Starters were excellent, mains were terrible, such a shame they let themselves down.
Great food, great service. Nice intimate venue which is great for dinner with the family. Serves awesome food without being pretentious. Take note to everyone's comments about making sure you bring your own wine!
A delightful find. Great to have the seasonally changing menu. The perfect place for an intimate night out. Bring that special bottle of wine and don't be ripped off with over the top corkage.
I agree with "blogger"...what's the fuss?! Went on Sat night with friends and we were all very disappointed. The food was only just ok, nothing special at all. The duck, which so many have written about, was over cooked and cold on arrive...the temperature could be due to the fact that the service was terrible. Waited 45 minutes between course...which was only ok because we had good company!
I have had much better value than this...I don't think it is worth it at all. If you want a nice dinner on a Saturday night with friends, I'd say stay home and cook before going to eat here.
Found the food to be of good quality, well prepared and aplenty. The steak I had was massive and perfectly cooked. Aside from our mains taking some time to arrive, the service was excellent especially being a Saturday.
It is a small place so not for big groups but for a romantic dinner for two definitely. It's BYO which is a shame because there's no local bottleshop handy but otherwise it's great value for money.
We always come here when looking for a nice romantic restaurant that provides a homely meal with a little bit extra for a reasonable price that is served with a smile.
Don't understand the fuss. The food was okay but cold on arrival and quite bland. Entrees better than mains and service a bit slow. A bit like a home cooked meal but not as good.
