My wife and I had our 25th wedding anniversary dinner at red squirrel the other day and enjoyed the experienced immensely. The roast duck margret was a highlight for me, although the dessert of belgian chocolate mousse was also really delicious. The ambience is also very nice, in particular the very intimate surroundings.
It's always nice to be recommended to a place and to not be disappointed. The staff were courteous and very accommodating, the décor was very clean and fresh looking and the meals were excellent. Generous portions, expertly cooked and thoroughly tasty. Would recommend it for anyone with a discerning palate.
Having heard great word of mouth reviews we decided on the spur of the moment to dine here. The fact that no one else was in the restaurant should have been a warning sign! What appears to be a lovely setting is somewhat compromised by a smell that seems to float through every now and then. A visit to the bathroom at the end of the night provided a possible cause!
We ordered bruschetta as a starter and for the mains the party was split between duck and chicken. The bruschetta was original but nice, leaving everyone looking forward to mains. However, the 2 chicken dishes while presented beautifully were raw in the middle. When finally cooked the dish was quite tasty. However, overall I really could not recommend this restaurant as a fine dining experience.
We love dining at Red Squirrel the intimate setting is a welcome break from noisy children! Food is always delicious and service great. Have never been disappointed.
I have had dinner at Red Squirrel on a number of occasions and have always had a wonderful dinner complimented by great service. I have tried their summer menu to their winter menu. It has always been varied and delicious.
The Red Squirrel has provided me with my worst dining experience ever! I was extremely disappointed in the food and the quality of the service. The menu is an odd combination of flavours thrown together mostly including some strong cheese to disguise the cook's lack of skill.
The food did not taste fresh, the bread served was like something you purchase from the Coles value aisle, except they charged us more than the price of a loaf for two slices! Ridiculous! I will never go here again and will continue to pass on the news of this terrible experience to my fellow diners. Don't be fooled by the nice fit out !
The Red Squirrel has become a favourite place to dine at for my husband and I, the intimate setting and the home cooked style meals are always outstanding. Staff are friendly and helpful.
This is a really good value local restaurant. Food is cooked to order so is not for fast foodies. Looking forward to the new Spring menu next month. Byo is a plus.
Bread on arrival was supermarket sliced, with small bowl of odd oil with drop of balsamic at bottom, which you couldn't get to, disappointing. Aromas from kitchen were not appetising. Entrees, scallops were overcooked and didn't look/taste fresh! Duck was overcooked and dry, no flavours.
Mains, lamb shank, well below standard, bland, mash potato lumpy. Lobster filled ravioli was ok, but bland. We went elsewhere for dessert as food overall was bland, odd combinations with cheese a dominant feature on the menu. Service was slow, staff boring, food very poor. Definitely won't go back!
What can I say, my squid (entree) was chewy and overcooked. However, my main (New York steak or so it stated) pasted, just, note the rating of 4 instead of 3. Like to show support to the local's, but not happy when service is slow and food is well below standard. Tried it and won't be back.
