The creme brulee is a must try! Irrisistable hot chocolate. The chilli prawn tapas was a highlight of the night too. Very enjoyable. We went on a Thur night. It's very nice and cozy.
We came here for a friends birthday. It was her choice of where to go. The restaurant was packed but we did not have to wait long for our food. We were all bemused by the kitchen calling food away dish after dish.
The food was elegantly presented but still tasted like real home cooking. The best meal we have had out and at this price bracket. I am an expert in sauces and the eye fillet with the bernaise sauce was to say the least sensational. The eye fillet was cooked perfectly med rare and I could have sliced it with a butter knife, and the bernaise sauce was sincerely one of the best I have had.
I recently had a group of 10 for dinner, had a bad first impression having to ask for menu's and drinks but once we ordered the service picked up. The food was delicious and plentyful. Its a great place to sit down and enjoy a long dinner for catch ups. They could probably do with one extra staff member on the floor for more attentive service but the staff there did well considering. I'd go there again and order the banquet for sure. Great place for groups.
It was hard to decide whether the food was better or the service. Both of which was near impeccable. The mussels tapas and the paella were fantastic, the rest of the tapas that we tried were better than average. Good value if you're looking for a little more expensive night out. Definitely go back again!
Our group went to Raquel's on a Thursday. We had a great and relaxed experience. We went BYO wine and spent about $40 per person with tapas, mains, and dessert. The food was fresh, portion sizes were good, and the service was friendly. I recommend Raquel's for its selection and relaxed European atmosphere.
Service was very good, food was great. We had the Paella which wasn't salty at all as previously stated in reviews, the only thing at fault was it may have been a bit oily but I would order it again. A very pleasant evening.
We were told to order the Paella here, so we did along with a few tapas and of course the Sangria. The food was a little slow but when it arrived you soon realised it was slow because it was freshly cooked not reheated. Four of us, thouroughly enjoyed our meal which included the Rabbit, the crab cocktail and my favorite the King Prawns. Value was incredibly good.
Reviewing a tapas restaurant is a tricky thing. Everyone has their favourite dishes, everyone has things that they don't care for. And yet, to really enjoy tapas, you need to have several people in your party to ensure a good variety of dishes. So in some ways, when I went to Raquel's with a party of twelve, I was afraid that we were going to end up ordering a banquet, something I always think overpriced and usually more poorly prepared then a dish by dish meal. As it turned out, I was right: we ended up getting the $35 banquet, which included six dishes.
The restaurant was far too loud (a perennial problem in Sydney), but it was one of the few places I have been to in the city that looked like an authentic European restaurant. It smelled authentically European as well. The company was good and wine flowed freely. All this gave me high hopes that the banquet would at least be bearable.
My hopes were rewarded as dish after quality dish came out to the table. The portions were ample, so much so that our large party could not finish it all. But even more than the quantity was the quality: every single dish was well-prepared, distinctive and really flavourful. From the antipasto (with lots of jamon, a kind of Spanish prosciutto) to the garlic prawns to the chicken with chorizo, my partner and I were both pleasantly surprised.
The service was admittedly spotty. But it was a Saturday night, the restaurant was packed with large parties, some larger than our and for the first part of the meal, the clearly overworked staff struggled mightily. I give them kudos for the effort.
The best recommendation I can give for Raquel's is that I want to come back and try some of my favourite dishes not included in the banquet. Whoever comes with me next time will just have to order what they really like. After this first rate meal, I am willing to give any of their dishes a try.
I wanted to give Raquels a try since reading the great reviews on this site. I walked in on Monday night and was seated straight away by the very friendly waitress. We ordered the paella which was a 50 minutes wait but might I assure you it was well worth it! I have had paella at many many Spanish restaurants in Sydney and this was the most tasty paella ever! This is how I would make paella at home, with generous servings of seafood and chicken and boy was it packed full of flavour!
I will never go anywhere else for paella again. And I didn't believe it was salty at all, it was just perfect! The only thing which could have improved the paella was if there was more of a crust at the bottom, but the fact that it didn't, did not make it any less tasty. Thumbs up to Raquels, I will definitely return.
