I was dining at the Rangoon a few weeks ago and as soon as I entered I was shocked by how wonderful the ambience was so I definitely had something to look at while me and my wife were waiting for the food which was great, we loved our food especially the duck curry. Service, food and ambience was astronomical!

Had a very disappointing dinner with friends here 2 weeks ago. I ordered the goat curry which should have been called "bone curry" as there was little meat on the bones. The service was rather poor and when we asked for additional rice we had to remind the waiter twice. My friend ordered a beer which never arrived and we will certainly not be returning to this restaurant. With all the competition in Crows Nest, I feel this restaurant will need to raise it's game in order to encourage customers to return.

Extremely overpriced, very average indian restaurant. As one reviewer said, the lamb was tough in the dish I had and the vegetarian dish I tried, seemed like it had been reheated in the microwave. Very dry, tasteless chunks of potatoes, beans amd carrot. Servings are very small in size. The waitress had an attitude like she didn't want to be there and couldn't wait till her shift was finished, at 6.30 pm of an evening. Won't be going back, plenty of other much better Indian places around.

I was a fan of the Rangoon Colonial Club till last Wednesday. After having a great meal previously with a friend, I recommended it to my husband. When we got there, the chief waiter was rude to us and looked displeased we did not make any reservations eventhough it was mid week and there were 6 empty tables in the restaurant. We were disappointed with the Lamb Pasanda, the meat was really tough and the curry was watery. The quality of the meat was akin to something you'd expect at a local takeaway, not when you're paying $19.95. The Chicken Tikka Massala was unusual (drier than usual and with large capsicum pieces), but was tasty and the chicken was tender. We paid $3.50 for a miniscule bowl of yoghurt and mint sauce to go with our pappadums. The sauce was watery and the fragrance or tang of the mint non-existent. The garlic naan had no oomph to it too. In all, the only saving grace of that meal was the chicken and the pilau rice! And $10 for BYO? Come on, what a rip off! We will not be going back there again, there are other Indian restaurants out there that do better food, like Sibi's, Nilgiri's and Mehfil. I think we'll try Cumin next!

I've been there with my friends. The food was delicious and the service also very good. The main thing about the restaurant is their interior decoration is pretty good. I had never seen the Indian restaurant like this food was little bit expensive but value for money. Now they are BYO as well so I enjoy alot.

We visited this restaurant in between Christmas & New Year. Disappointed a little - only 3 of us - we shared one entree, 2 mains, 3 naans & rice and the bill was around $140! I think they should have byo wine, the wine was very expensive - cheapest was about $39.00! We ended up having 3 glasses of red, one glass of champagne. We also thought the food was expensive for Indian. Our chicken korma was $22.95 & to be honest, only around 3 or 4 pieces of chicken. Very disappointing.

Entertainment Card users beware. This restaurant refused the use of our two Entertainment cards for a group of 4 people. They would only give us one 25% discount (up to $35) instead of applying the two cards. They just flatly and rudely refused when we tried to explain that we are entitled to use the two cards. We even had the Entertainment book to show them but they were not interested.
I have lodged a complaint with the Entertainment book as this restaurant has ripped us off and probably many others as well. Unfortunately, we will not be going back to this place. The food was nice but expensive and does not allow BYO wine. There are alot other Indian restaurants around for us to try and revisit so they have basically driven away 4 good paying customers. Not very good business ethics.

I've been here 3 or 4 times and the food is always pretty reliable, with a good menu range. The ambience can be a bit sleepy (suspect the library-like surroundings don't help), but service is always attentive and helpful. It's not the cheapest or best Indian restaurant in Sydney, but it's consistent quality at a reasonable price.

I can only describe our dining experience here as tedious and disappointing. We had steeled ourselves for an expensive evening after studying the menu online and at least in that department we were not let down. Even after our $35 Entertainment Book discount, our bill for six came to $230 and that was without desserts, coffee or extras.
When we arrived on an icy Saturday night, we were given a table next to the door even though we’d booked in advance. Some pleading and cajoling was necessary before they agreed to put us at decent table away from the wind and draft. Given that the better table was vacant anyway they should have put us there straightaway.
In the result, the table we got was decent enough. The atmosphere is homely and inviting with book-lined walls, pretty pictures of colonial India and large tables with comfy chairs (you’ll be grateful for these!). The patterned, tiled floors, crisp white napery and expensive cutlery give the place an upmarket look and feel. And you’ll also be grateful for the good acoustics because the real problem here is the excruciatingly slow service.
You’ll have plenty of time for conversation. We arrived at 7.30 pm and it wasn’t until 9.15 pm that we finally got to tuck into our mains. And the wait wasn’t really worth it. The food is average but nothing to write home about. Our samosa starters were lukewarm and doughy. My balti beef was a tad chewy with too much sauce in it. The tandoori chicken was better, tasty and tender with just the right amount of aromatic flavour. Portions are adequate without being too large and by the end of the evening all plates had been picked clean.
The place was quite full, but to cram in even more diners, a table had been awkwardly placed in front of the steps leading to the toilets. This required a tricky manoeuvre just to get inside them. Once inside though you’ll find the toilets clean and well-provisioned
And if you’re using an Ent. Book voucher best check the bill when you get it. You’re entitled to 25% off your bill up to a maximum of $35. Staff initially deducted only 10% so we had to point this out to them and ask for a revised bill. Parking is a nightmare of course, especially on a Saturday night. But if you don’t mind a little walk, a few blocks down Ernest Street you’ll find unrestricted spaces.
