My wife and I frequent this small local Thai and never have we had a bad meal. Food is fresh, hot and tasty, not mention good value for money.

I eat here quite regularly, both dining in and take away. I have always thoroughly enjoyed my meals. I have read some not so good reviews which surprise me. As a local I prefer Ranang to any of the other Thai Restaurants around Rozelle and Balmain. Maybe I just know what is good on the menu! I recommend the salt and pepper calamari and the garlic lamb cutlets, very tasty.

I would not recommend eating here. The decor is pleasant and the service is friendly but the food is terrible and definitely not freshly cooked. For example I had pad thai, which was a pile of greasy noodles, with a few cold pieces of onion, pepper and tofu thrown on top along with a bunch of wilted and brown beansprouts. Dining companion had a chicken dish that smelled really strange and is now complaining of an iffy stomach.

Food arrives too quickly to be fresh and they are cutting corners using veg etc that are close to going off. Avoid at all costs. It is a shame as decor is pleasant and restaurant is convenient for Rozelle locals but this level of care with food and people's potential health is unforgivable.

Despite the friendly service, this is possibly the worst Thai meal I've ever had the experience to eat in Sydney. Definitely, will not be back.

I had dinner with friends. As usual thai restaurant, taste great. We had duck and deep fried fish and tofu stir fry. They are all tasty and everything came with lots of crunchy fresh veges. Service was great as the cheap restaurant, the waiters are attentive they did something before we asked or we liked.

Friendly and respectful folk but way under par compared to other thai places in the area. Gave it the benefit of the doubt first time around as the food was mixed (some ok other dishes v poor), however, last night I fell ill. Don't bother.

Well, how do I put this? I have driven past so many times, and had heard such wonderful things about Ranang, that I just had to try it at least once. I went on my own on a balmy evening for a quick bite. Ordered the Panang Chicken curry and the Squid & Chilli Jam Salad. Sounded great on the menu but what came out was just awful.

Not only was the food overcooked & grey, but both meals tasted like burnt, charred plastic. The squid had flecks of char all over it, and the Panang was entirely lacking in flavour (other than char). It was honestly like they'd forgotten to put the spice paste in the wok! The so called "chilli jam" on the squid did net exist, instead it had a runny clear sauce that it was swimming in. Since when is jam runny?

I like to think that I've been to a fair number of varied Thai restaurants of many varying prices & quality (at least 20 venues in Sydney), but this taste experience was by far the worst I have ever been to. As a local, I will not be returning, despite friendly service & good atmosphere. The food needs to be of a particular standard, and this did not cut it.

We have been to Ranang twice now and have enjoyed it both times. The ambience is lovely and the food is fantastic. We normally select the same dishes whenever we go to Thai, but we decided to try other things on the menu and have been delighted with our selection. Did I mention that is also great value. You don't need to spend a lot to have a wonderful meal. We will make this our local Thai...

Ranang Thai Kitchen has standard Thai dishes on the menu, and some interesting specials. We enjoyed Ranang lamb, a stack of 3 delicious, tender lamb cutlets on top of lightly cooked green vegetables, broccoli, snow peas, zucchini and green beans, on a very tasty yellow Thai basil and coconut curry sauce, with a few small brown beans. The sauce was sweet and mildly spicy, with turmeric and Thai basil flavours lifting it out of the ordinary.

The pad Thai was a really GOOD pad Thai, plenty of noodles and chicken, the most important ingredients, and lighter on the finely diced bean curd and sprouts. A lovely touch is the separate presentation of seasonings on a banana leaf on the plate, hot chilli flakes, sweet sugar, salty crushed nuts and a sour wedge of lemon - so instead of being excessively sweet, like pad Thai can be, you season to your own taste. We also had spring rolls and chicken wings for entree, 4 pieces on each serve. Yum.

This plus rice for 2 was plenty between 3, plus a soft drink for the teenager, came to just under $50. The only draw back is the traffic noise from the bus stop almost outside. (Numbers are hard - maybe it's really 7.5 all round!)
