Ratings made against my expectations of a pub bistro. In summary, this was a perfectly comfortable hotel dining-room experience for a family dinner out.
Although we don't have high expectations of a simple Saturday night dinner out (we're actually trying to avoid culinary excesses for these simple evenings out) the food was excellent. I'd describe it as hearty, and tasty.

The ambience was comfortable, uncrowded and relatively quiet. Very happy with this venue for a pleasant family dinner out. Rather desperate for an alternative to the Bluegum, which doesn't appeal as much as it used to.

What a lovely dining experience Rails. I had the steak with scampi and lobster bisque which melted in my mouth and my partner loved the cheese cake dessert. Definitely quality food at a great price.

Was expecting great things from Rails after a good write up in the paper. Staff friendly enough but appeared to be very inexperienced and unfamiliar with how to treat customers looking for a more than fast food experience. Wine list ok but nothing to get excited about.

Food was excellent. Really well prepared and presented. Cooked to perfection.
Will certainly try again and hope staff have got a bit more experience, the thing was just the girl was just busy chatting with kitchen staff and don't care about the customers, well I think Rails should know this all the things and the coffee was horrible for the first time so wake up Rails.

Went here for my birthday recently. Service was a stand-out, attentive with being obsequious. My dish, grilled fish had a wonderfully "fishy" taste too often missing in seafood. Excellent desserts and a good atmosphere. Price bit expensive for the dinner.

I went here for lunch with a friend. We ordered from the snack menu which was cheaper. The main menu is quite expensive. I had soft shell crab which was really nice. Meal would have been better if there had been a bit more ambience and more than 3 tables of us.

We had a great time at Rails, the staff were friendly and welcoming towards our family of five. We were all impressed with the warm and elegant decor, and with the service provided to all. Both our mains and deserts came on time and were tasty and appealing. Thankyou Rails for catering for our famiy, and thankyou to the chef who came out to say hello, the children thought that was special.

It was nice. That about sums up my experience at rails. Don't get me wrong, the meals were well cooked. The service was attentive. It just missed that certain, zing. Something was lacking, but I'm not sure what. Overall, a nice place to eat.

I went to rails approx 3 years ago. It was divine. I then went with the next chef and it was awful. I was understandbly hesitant to return. However with the new chef Sean Fitzgerald I have gone there 3 times this year. The food flavour and presentation is second to none. The value of money is also a big surprise with fresh in house made dessert only $9. I would recommend to anyone.

I'd say this is the most high-end restaurant in Hornsby, food and presentation is beautiful, yes its a little pricey but that is the type of place it is. You know what to expect before you get there. (in my opinion). Wonderful place for romantic dinners eg Valentines Day.

Hi I had been to rails for two times its really a most enjoyable evening was last Saturday the food was perfect and well presented on the plate and the taste was awesome and I really appreciate the service because the gal was alone and she was working hard in bar and restaurant both she was doing great job but wake up rails you need to keep more people in your service thanks we will be back soon.
