I really like the food here I had the Pot Pie and my husband had the big breakfast. The pot pie was the best one I have had in a long time. My hubby really enjoyed the big breakfast and said the eggs were perfect. All in all very nice food and atmosphere, waitress was very nice (even helped with directions!). Hubby didn't ask of course LOL.

Just enjoyed a cosy spot in front of the fireplace and enjoyed my huge plate pancakes, berries and icecream for breakfast. I was able to use my laptop thanks to their complimentary wifi. I found the staff friendly and efficient. I will definitely be coming back.

I booked a table for 4 at this cafe for Mother's Day lunch. We were all very disappointed. I was prepared to give this a go, and had not been since the new management had taken over. The decor is a substantial improvement on the previous attempts so not as cold as the previous atmosphere. The initial impression was pretty good, orders taken within an appropriate timeframe, water and wine glasses delivered when requested.

The menu is fairly limited but that was not a concern for us, it took at least 40 minutes for our main to arrive, the waitress came to our table and offered a complimentary coffee because our order was taking so long. Then my husband's order was incorrect. I can accept that there may have been a misinterpretation of my husband's strong english accent but when he asked for his original order of a ploughman's lunch he was told that they did not have the ingredients for that meal so he accepted the meal they had prepared in error (a BLT - we have been married for nearly 30 years and my husband has never ordered that in any establishment!).

When the waitress brought the meal to the table there was no apology. After the meal (2 of us were satisfied with our meals but my daughter was not impressed with her steak sandwich and my husband...well, what can I say he was really looking forward to his Ploughman's lunch!). After we had finished our meals there was no attempt to clear our plates, one waitress did ask if she could clear and then just took one plate away!

I had planned on a dessert but we waited for so long for anyone else to come and clear that we gave up and my daughter just went up to the teller to pay. Whilst we were waiting we noticed that another patron had been served something resembling a ploughman's lunch, when my husband asked why he had been told that they did not have the ingredients for that item he was told that the chef had just put that together for that patron.

We do not consider ourselves hard markers but this facility needs to advise staff that smiles on faces encourage repeat business and a simple apology goes a long way! I acknowledge that Mother's Day is busy but it would take a lot to get us back to this establishment.

    Response from Management:
    Hi Teresae57,

Thank you for your review, even though it’s hard to hear criticism it will go a long way towards our staff training. Mothers Day this year was the busiest day we have had since we took over 6 months ago and for a small kitchen we had a real hard time keeping up with demand. It was estimated we fed over 40 people from 8am-12pm and another 30-40 people until we closed at 4pm, with one booking for a table of 14!!

I have instructed my staff when we are busy that we notify the customer of progress and offer them a complimentary coffee, which by your review our staff did do, I also believe that an apology for the delay was already given with the offer of coffee!

I made inquiries about the table not being cleared properly in our staff meeting and the general response was that because of how busy it was when the front staff saw a customer waiting to pay they dropped everything and gave that priority and also in bringing out food from the kitchen, so it just is a matter on not being 3 places at once.

Our menu had only changed over to a winter menu 4 days previous and all the ingredients were not available for the Ploughmans Platter, the platter you saw was a decision the manager made on the day to a loyal customer as by this time the numbers in the shop had depleted and the chef had a little more time to go through the fridges and try assemble a platter of some sort. I am sorry that this same decision wasn’t given to you.

Thank you anyway for your review, we will continue to improve our quality of service and hope you may feel the desire to return some time in the future.

Extremely ordinary food was very light on for the price coffee was not the best definitely won't be returning. Left feeling disappointed and hungry.

    Response from Management:
    Hi Realistic,

Our meal portions are quite reasonable and competitive so the only explanation I may be able to give is since late March we have been training a new cook who may have inadvertantly given you a smaller portion? I will take on board your criticism and we will re -train staff on machine and coffee preparation. We have been open for 6 months and are very interested in getting our quality and service up to an excellent standard and welcome all criticism even when we are taking a hiding..lol

I am sorry you won’t be returning to see if we get it right but your review has proved to be a valuable tool in which I used in my last staff meeting to remind staff of becoming complacent and improving their service!

    Thank you.
    Management

The food was good. The atmosphere is a little cold. We definitely refer friends here, however, I prefer a more warm friendly atmosphere, not just a cafe. The chef will not change the menu to suit customers. Not as welcoming as other cafes in the town.
