June 09: Thank goodness they have replaced the plastic chairs. The bench seats now have comfy brown suede-like material and the chairs are (I think) dark brown woodgrain. Looking a lot more cosy now and yet still plenty of space for an inner-city cafe so that you don't feel you need to hold your breath when you walk in.
They also offer every 8th meal and 8th coffee free and best of all you can store your stamped meal/coffee card in the little index box by the cash register so you don't need to remember to bring it in your wallet every time.
Update: Still great value. The Turkish breakfast of hash brown, pide toast and sukjuk Turkish sausage in scrambled eggs is still my favourite. I have it nearly every time I come here.
Has this place changed hands? The food still tastes the same but what have they done with the furniture!? Horrible cheap looking white plastic chairs and glary shiny square aluminium tables which really aren't needed as this isn't a beachside location. It seems like the new proprietors/owners went and got the cheapest cafe furniture they can find.
Still great food but the ambience is not the same. The kitschy chandeliers are definitely not matched by the takeaway hamburger joint furniture.
Previous review: Attentive service though they could be a little friendlier. Plenty of space for those dining with a toddler in a highchair. The steak sandwich was ok and the steak was cooked as ordered but on the small side and with only minimal added fillings of some fried onion and a small piece of grilled capsicum. The chips were tasty. The last time we came, I had the Turkish breakfast which was good value and the raspberry smoothie was good too. The value is ok and my partner liked the fact the tables and seating weren't crammed in.
Went here today for a late brunch and ordered the mushroom special, which was very nice. Didn't like that the sourdough sat at the bottom of the mushrooms though as they ended up slightly soggy. Chai latte was good as well. Happy to see a cafe serve it in a tall glass without the request of a "large" size.
This is a great place to, sit by yourself and people watch or, bring a bunch of friends. The high ceilings, sunny windows and well laid out (not crammed in) tables create a great bustling but not frantic atmosphere.
Service is quick and polite, I like the fact that a bottle of water appears on the table before you've even picked up a menu. My favourite dish is also the scrambled eggs with goat's cheese, it's always cooked to perfection. This cafe will happily cook bacon to your liking (crispy please) and almost anything is available as a side. They also know how to cook eggs, the scrambled ones are creamy and soft, the poached ones ooze thick yolky rivers. The juices are fresh and delicious and the coffee is good. It's simply a good bet to try for the first time.
I've been a regular at the Post for quite some time and I can honestly vouch that it is a great coffee house in all ways. The service is friendly and prompt and the ambience is always funky and urban. Great food menu with alot of variety and spice. The best aspect of Post Cafe is definitely the alfresco seating, watch busy Marrickville with a great cup of coffee.
As a Marrickville local I enjoy coming to the post cafe with my toddler. They are a child friendly place with decent food. The coffee is ok. The service is efficient. I can't understand the comments below about the surly waitress. I found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant.
November 2008 Review: I truly don't understand negative reviews for this great cafe either. I have been coming here for years and years and have never experienced bad service. I sometimes pop in by myself on a rare week day off to have a nice burger and cofffee and sit outside and enjoy. My only criticism (and that's only if someone held a gun to my head) are the sleazy older guys who also sit outside ogling both passers by and other patrons but that is hardly the fault of this well run cafe.
I also wish to reiterate how good the breakfasts here are: the boyfriend loves the Turkish breakfast (and he will not eat any Turkish food from anywhere) and I Love love love the scrambled eggs with goat cheese, something I have tried to duplicate in my own kitchen at home and got very close to, however, no kewpie doll, there must be a secret ingredient that they use there.
I think that the service staff do a very good job and I have never seen any of them get flustered, even when the place gets packed out on Sunday mornings. They are also young and friendly and know what they are doing, kudos to them all and also to management. Keep up the good work guys. The boyfriend and I will always keep coming back here, it is simply our one and only choice for Sunday breakfast in Marrickville.
Original Review from October 2006 : I just love the scrambled eggs with goat cheese. The coffee is also very good. The service is friendly and efficient.
