Food is really nice and reasonably priced, but for the past 8 times and the 8 times I've been there, my partner's food arrives before mine and he finished before mine arrives. Not really nice when you're trying to have a nice meal together.
Tasty well priced food, efficient service, great atmosphere. We are not locals, but happy to travel here to eat. Found by accident once and stumbled across the $5 Cake and Coffee deal (now up to $6 in these inflationary times!).
To all the negative comments below you must be very difficult to please. We have been going to The Post for 6 1/2 years now and it is one of my families favourite places to go. The staff are wonderful and know my kids names, they always make us feel like part of the Post family and I have pretty much always had a fantastic meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) there. My favourites are goats cheese eggs and Haloumi Salad and the coffee is great!!!!!! Keep it up guys!
We are locals and go at least once a week and must say I am shocked by some of the comments about service, I always find them very helpful, and very quick (which is great as we have a small child). Food wise I recommend the totally scrumptious goats cheese scrambled eggs, the bircher muesli, any of the cooked brekkies, and the specials. I wish they did corn fritters though! They don't mind if you order off the menu either which is good as I always do. Always ask for sour dough toast and get your poached eggs on a different plate if you're worried about soggy toast. Mocktail number 4 is the best.
I agree with Merrelyn below... the wait staff never smiles and we go to Post every 2 weeks (what is her problem??). The food is fabulous though and I love the coffee. Chicken caesar could do with a little more flavour in the dressing and we always go for the Post brekkie- great value !!
Been a while since I visited the Post but I must say they still impress me. Don't agree with previous reviews at all. I love the eggs ben especially their hollondaise. Coffee is just the correct amount, and especially smooth and creamy on the palate. The staff have been pleasant and observant both times I haved dined.
Excellent can't wait to go back next time I'm in the area.
Agree with the soggy toast comment - not fussed on the eggs benedict for that reason. However, everything else I've tried has been fantastic.
I moved into the area two weeks ago, and have been to Post four times now. Staff mostly friendly and helpful; one girl looks like she's sucked a lemon but you could get that anywhere. Fantastic changing specials menu; I definitely recommend checking it out.
I agree with Pezza's review (9th Feb 07). I had brunch at Cafe Post with a friend who lives in that area. As someone who travels in order to eat at the best brunch / coffee shops around Sydney, I have to say that the food and coffee are very, very average.
Newtown prices, but at least the yuppie fare is acceptable, 'though its not a patch on the variety of excellent and cheap asian eateries around here. Coffee was okay, but the cups aren't generous enough. Ambience is average - they should've left more of the old post-office imho. Service was typical of Newtown as well: "terminally cool", mostly polite, but nothing special.
