Food here was of good quality but quite expensive. Service was good and the waiting staff friendly and helpful. I was here on a very warm, humid evening and the climate inside the restaurant was just as bad as outside. This tarnished the experience slightly. Despite this, it's worth a visit and I'd recommend trying a pizza plus one or more of the deserts.

Everything at Portofino was great. It is guaranteed value for money. The food is delicious Italian cuisine and the service is fantastic.

After reading all the positive reviews for Portofino, I went expecting a great meal but was terribly disappointed. The entree of grilled octopus in chilli and garlic marinade sounded yummy, looked good but was barely touched by the table because it had too much salt. The pizza (can't remember what it was called, had chicken and mushroom) was bland and the base was burnt black. We only realised it was burnt on the bottom after we were joking about how we had to work for our food (too crunchy). The lasagna was very average and way too salty. The linguine with salmon was oily and wanting.

To be fair, one of the four mains was thoroughly enjoyed, ravioli with beef.

We kept looking around us (it was a busy Saturday night) to see what other people were eating. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves. In any case, I won't be back to try my luck.

The food is sooo yummy, this place always booked out. I was impressed with the pizzas. Totally recommend it.

I have been coming here for years and it is one of my favourites. Good food and service you can rely on. A safe bet.

Portofino defies description. If you want to wait for over 30 minutes for your main meal surrounded by waiting staff who are more interested in themselves than serving its customers - this is the place for you. Its like the centre for the Lost and Found. In fact if you enjoy eating cheesey molasses aka Pasta a la Crap followed by Takeaway pizza brought to you courtesy of Play School- you may enjoy this place even more.

There are many other ports of call in Leichhardt - give this one a miss and save yourself the time and money.

Turned up on a busy Saturday night without a booking. We were directed across the road to the Valilla Bar for cocktails (with a discount card) and the staff came and got us when a table was ready! Servci with a smile! Food was very tasty and the staff were friendly. Overall a great night. I recommend it!

The best spaghetti ai frutti di mare in Sydney! I've been going to this place for years and it's always very reliable and the food is delicious. The only thing I don't like is sitting upstairs - it's a bit drafty and too far away from the action downstairs.

Restaurant was almost empty when we went there last Thursday. The 'manager'(?) sat us in a narrow seat next to the only other diners and insisted that we not move the table even slightly. Why? Food was alright but over priced. There are far too many good, well priced restaurants and cafes on Norton street for these prices to be acceptable.

Evening was topped off with a hair in the pizza. This was not acknowledged but the price was removed from the bill. We left the full amount but will not be returning. An apology would have been appreciated. This is Cafe food at "fine dining" prices. I'd recommend Cafe Jolly next door, the rissotto is much better. Portofino have friendly wait staff but might do well to limit customer exposure to the manager.

I have been coming here for at least 10 years. It is my favourite Italian restaurant in Sydney. The food is always excellent and the atmosphere is buzzing.
