Feel like pasta or pizza for lunch, so we chose Pompel's. I have to say it was a disappointment. We ordered a Divola pizza, the base is not as good as La Disfida at Harberfield in fact no where near it, even Rosso Pomodoro is better than that. The salami topping was not good. We had the prawn pasta, it was average and need more seasoning, frozen prawn and packet spaghetti for $29, sorry nowadays they need to do better.

Shouldn't really comment on the food as we didn't stay long enough to order anything. Beautiful spring afternoon and very thrilled to get a table outside. Been here many times in the past and loved it. Something has changed - namely the menu.

I asked if there was anything wheat free to be had on the menu, at the very least gnocchi or risotto would have sufficed but I was told I could have a salad. So we got up and left. One of the supposedly best pizza restaurants in our great city but for someone with food intolerances it is now a no go area. Very disappointing.

Food: Panini's were very nice. I could tell the bread was baked same day, fresh quality ingredients thoughout, the beetroot pasta showcase the chef's skills.

Ambience: just off the main Bondi strip (Campbell pde), however, don't have good views although on a corner, the let down were the crammed tables.

Service: very helpful owner and prompt service from the student waitress with european accent!

Value: expensive even for Bondi, lunch special Panini's are for $13.50 and it basically a small loaf of bread with stuffings, pizzas all over $20 each and some main over $35, this place is designed for fine dining not a quick bite for the beach goers.

The pizza was good, and so was the gelato, however, the price for gelato was overpriced. The service was one of the worst service I've ever experienced, I made a reservation for 20 people at 7 p.m. , I only got the table at 8p.m. , and when I got the table, it could only fit 16 people and the manager refused to add 1 more table for us.

This place has completely changed and what a disappointment, only thing that resembles the Pompei of the past is the menu, we've been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years, consistently great but what have they done! and why? last saturday night booked for 7.30, place was chaotic, management confused and not able to cope, staff shortage was placing unmanageable load on those few waiters available, seated at almost 8pm, still waiting on menus at 8.45, pizzas arrived approx 9.15 and they were truly of sub-standard quality, couple on adjacent table became so frustrated with service and the waiting time they demanded their food be packaged for take-away and promptly left.

The woman who was atempting to manage the restaurant was incompetent and spent most of the time in a flustered state, the restaurant has been 'renovated' and has completely lost it's original charm, such a shame to have wrecked something that was so successful, if you're thinking of a night at Pompei, think again.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable meal here, on a Thursday night that managed to fill the restaurant. The food had those typical lean and clean Italian flavours, with good quality ingredients. Service was friendly and attentive despite the numbers. The Italian reds we had by the glass were a treat, and the gelato hit the high notes. Just a shame the Savoiardi biscuits in the Tiramisu were half frozen. The blueberry-infused Grappa softened the blow.

Horrible renovation. $5.50 for a spoon of icecream is unbelievable!

Had lunch here on Sunday with my sister. It was a pleasant afternoon, found a nice table outside, that was in a sunny spot but also in the shade. The pizza was delicious and the salad fresh. The gelato was divine. My only complaint is our drinks cost more than our food. $60 for 4 drinks is a bit expensive even though they were delicious, a sweet vermouth, campari and something else. Staff were friendly and efficient. The queue for the takeaway gelato was constant and for a while out the door.

I booked a table last saturday when I showed up someone that suppose to be the senior staff told us "It won't be long" so what's the point to book a table if they let you wait 30 minutes, and nobody seems to know what's going on? After been seated took another half hour to have attention and who were taking the order barely spoke english beside that we order 2 pizzas (parma and prawns pesto, the prawns did not seems really fresh), we ordered gelato after the meal and was ok. Average food inconsistent service! Used to be a great place!

Had dinner with some girlfriends there last night. It was ridiculously hard to get anyone's attention to order or request anything. When we finally managed to get someone's attention the waitress was quite rude - I can safely say the worst service i've had in a long long time.

I ordered the diavola pizza and a burrata salad and although the salad was tasty, the pizza was very bland which is unusual because it was supposed to have spicy salami on it. We also ordered a bottle of red and the wine was cold which was very strange (ie they had it in the fridge?).

As the food wasn't anything special and the service was terrible, it's safe to say I won't be going there again unless to get some takeaway gelato.
